Why should I support someone else?

Let me start by saying that I"m new here so this may have already been discussed, but this has come up in my office several times and I wanted to get some other views of this.

I do payroll for a rather small company so I know most of the workers and their wives (most of the workers are men due to the nature of our business). There are two in particular who's wives SAH. These two are up to their eyeballs in debt. I have bill collectors constantly calling for them. That part is really their business, it is annoying but I enjoy being rude back to the bill collectors, lol.

The part that bothers me is that both wives have been in the office wanting copies of X amount of check stubs so that they can go and get public assistance (I know because they told me that is what it is for)! Why should my tax money go so that these women can SAH? I know that not all families that one parent stays at home are like this, but I know lots that are. Heck, growing up we were always broke because my mother refused to work, but we weren't on any public assistance.

So, why should I pay for a woman to SAH? Why can't she go and get a job to support her family just like anyone else?

If DNA is found in clothes years after an event and used as evidence in a trial, that piece of clothing has been sealed in evidence for years, not sent through a hot water wash cycle. Otherwise the chain of custody has been broken and the evidence is no longer admissable in court. I don't have time to add all the cute little ha-has and smiley faces, but the point remains.

I never said you become a millionaire by using coupons. I would be a billionaire by now-lol!! I just said that alot of millionaires are using them to save money. You can't honestly tell me you would see the CEO of a company shopping at a thrift shop with their employees? My boss who is not the CEO but an executive would NEVER be found there and he is a millionaire, by far.

Joy wore clothes too big for her for years (unless I made them) because the clothes that fit her were indecently too short (imo) for her. Same for Dylan. Pants that fit in the waist are too short for him. I swear that boy is all legs and just skin and bones.

Don't you work in a lab? How can you of all people pretend that all stains are visible? I'm sure you must use a microscope. Blood drops are often microscopic. I also pointed out things not visible to the human eye - *clear* bodily fluids are many in number, DNA, skin, etc.

<> As you can see, I was careful to point that out! So, your arguments are clearly floundering at this point.

<> Really, you're getting a little dire in scraping the bottom of the barrel for arguments here!

I have never heard it was harmful to the environment to only purchase new clothing! I wonder how many millions of people know this??!!

You actually did say that people became millionaires not by shopping at thrift stores, but by using coupons.

I don't know about your boss. I do know several people who have assets well over a million dollars who shop at thrift stores.

I am in the same boat as you. I guess things gross me out more than others. I also have a clean house, god forbid me!! I believe in cleaning and having neat things for my family.
While I am sure there are good finds at a thrift shop, these are things that should be left for people who really can not afford regular stores. When I give away clothes also, I intend for them to go to poor people, not middle-class or high-class who want to save a buck.

Well I have NEVER had a problem with the Gap. I buy from the outlet each and every season and have never had anything shrink (unless of course the kids grew!). Walmart clothes have shrunk and some Old Navy.

I take away my kids clothes too and I know they have favorites but I would never let them wear something that is too small for them just because "they want to". They can go out and get something new to replace it and they are fine with that.
I do have growing kids. I have an 8 year old and a 3 year old.

Why don't clothing manufacturers wash fabric before they cut? Just run the ole bolt or all the fabric through a huge, (newly patented) washing machine. Then clothes wouldn't shrink (and we couldn't be wasting all this time in a silly debate!)
