Why should I support someone else?

Let me start by saying that I"m new here so this may have already been discussed, but this has come up in my office several times and I wanted to get some other views of this.

I do payroll for a rather small company so I know most of the workers and their wives (most of the workers are men due to the nature of our business). There are two in particular who's wives SAH. These two are up to their eyeballs in debt. I have bill collectors constantly calling for them. That part is really their business, it is annoying but I enjoy being rude back to the bill collectors, lol.

The part that bothers me is that both wives have been in the office wanting copies of X amount of check stubs so that they can go and get public assistance (I know because they told me that is what it is for)! Why should my tax money go so that these women can SAH? I know that not all families that one parent stays at home are like this, but I know lots that are. Heck, growing up we were always broke because my mother refused to work, but we weren't on any public assistance.

So, why should I pay for a woman to SAH? Why can't she go and get a job to support her family just like anyone else?

That's a key point about hybrids.

But those cars in junk yards are used for "parts." So, it's not a complete waste. Ask Lindamomto3kidlets - junk yards are good for parts and maybe even an entire engine, but the cars are generally no longer drive-able (spe?) They would sooo be out on the road if they were.

I agree that junk yards and landfills are environmentally unsound. What actually is better environmentally are the incineratories! But until govs. require shiny, new, environmentally sound incinerators and better regulations on factory emissions, we're stuck with toxic landfills and junkyards seeping toxins into the groundwater which eventually gets into the water we drink, the oceans, etc.

That you haven't had to deal with the fashion and makeup thing yet.

No, they always financed. The last car they paid off very early though.

They would never buy used. They never wanted anyone else's problems. They were able to budget a new car every 10 years so they did that.

The Jolt and it's kin are exciting. I don't think our current station wagon will last until they are available though. We were planning on going to the hybrid Camry for our next family car. Now, my oldest has started playing the upright bass. It barely fits in the station wagon and is only a 1/4 size. We will see if the station wagon lasts longer than the interst in the instrument or if we will have to make sure we can fit it into the next car we purchase.

I have never had Gap clothing shrink in the almost 20 years I have bought it. I actually had a 20 year old sweatshirt I just gave away last year because I had not worn it in years as it was too big and out of style.
