Will my child remember that I was a SAHM

It struck me today that she might not.

I was sure I was doing the best thing for my children by staying home with them (two daughters-3 years old, and 4 months old). As I was talking to a dear aunt of mine (whose daughter is a working mother, since her infant was 12 weeks old), I felt my defensive bristles go up.

She went on and on about how "If she could do it all over again....she wouldn't have stayed home....." Then she told me a story in which her ds said to her, "mom, did you stay at home with us, or did you drop us off at daycare?" She almost died when he asked her that, because she stayed at home with her ds and dd until he entered kindergarten. Granted, many kindergartners haven't formed lasting memories by that age yet...but still. It got me thinking; is this ALL WORTH IT?

She was using it in her argument against staying at home. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling that I am not using. My career lies dormant at this time. We don't have cable, newspaper service, vacations, frills of any kind, new cars, etc. because of our money situation. We are middle-class and have sacrificed SO MUCH...only for me to hear from my aunt that..."her daughter needs to work to maintain their lifestyle." Yeah, driving a Volvo, she probably does....

I just need to hear from some of you who frequent this board and have solid opinions one way or the other on this topic.

I myself, personally am not trying to impress anyone because I do own real ones. I like the look of them. I like the quality. I have one that has lasted me 13 years.

I know the answer. Because police who are occupied with mid-size crime have their hands too full to tackle small crime. I'm sure the speeders think the police should spend their time catching carjackers instead of wasting it on speeders. And the conveneince store thieves would prefer to be left alone to rob in peace while the police go after mulit-kilo drug dealers. Everybody who is committing a crime prefers that the police go after somebody committing an even larger crime. It makes them feel they can get away with small crime while simultaneously basking in civic-mindedness.

Certainly not enough to break the law in order to obtain one or to create the many justifications that have been presented, that's for sure.

I totally respect you for that. I am not into somethings either like other people might be. My dh is into cars. I couldn't tell one rim from another. That is his thing. My old boss was into jewerly. I like jewerly but I don't need to get something every holiday and birthday.

<<I am not trying to convince you.>>

Could have fooled me, you know with all of those reasons about why one needs to break the law and but the purses "look" real and such, lol.

<<I just think it is so funny that everyone can have an opinion on how horrible it is but you don't know WHO is actually carrying these around.>>

Perhaps you could point me to a post where I stated that?

I am certainly not good enough at bag details to be able to tell the real from the fake. But that is irrelevent. Forgery doesn't become legal simply because it is so skillfully done that only some people can spot a fake. I probably couldn't tell a carefully made forged 50$ bill apart from a U.S. Treasury issued one either. But the quality of a counterfeit has no relation to its legality.
