Will my child remember that I was a SAHM

It struck me today that she might not.

I was sure I was doing the best thing for my children by staying home with them (two daughters-3 years old, and 4 months old). As I was talking to a dear aunt of mine (whose daughter is a working mother, since her infant was 12 weeks old), I felt my defensive bristles go up.

She went on and on about how "If she could do it all over again....she wouldn't have stayed home....." Then she told me a story in which her ds said to her, "mom, did you stay at home with us, or did you drop us off at daycare?" She almost died when he asked her that, because she stayed at home with her ds and dd until he entered kindergarten. Granted, many kindergartners haven't formed lasting memories by that age yet...but still. It got me thinking; is this ALL WORTH IT?

She was using it in her argument against staying at home. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling that I am not using. My career lies dormant at this time. We don't have cable, newspaper service, vacations, frills of any kind, new cars, etc. because of our money situation. We are middle-class and have sacrificed SO MUCH...only for me to hear from my aunt that..."her daughter needs to work to maintain their lifestyle." Yeah, driving a Volvo, she probably does....

I just need to hear from some of you who frequent this board and have solid opinions one way or the other on this topic.

So...cops should ignore crimes that are unlikely to result in anyone's death? Shoplifters and vandals will be delighted to hear that.

They are both bad in my book and I would hope there would be enough cops out there to be going after these kind of crimes before a handbag party.
Should cops be looking for in home Poker parties too instead of a drunk driver?

I never said that. My point is that I would rather see my tax dollars going to pay for someone doing a more severe crime than knock off bags.

Hmmm...I have a sectional home in a real neighborhood on foundation. So far its been fairly "decent" housing ;).

Why stop at bags? A really good currency forger could hook you up with some good 20$-100$ bills so realistic looking that any store clerk would believe they were the real thing. If saving money is important, there can be significant savings from spending something that isn't actually money but is so skillfully made that most people think it is.

I still don't understand your point. Just because people have always broken particular laws and they are respectable citizens otherwise, we are supposed look the other way and focus on some abstract "bigger" crime? Hmm, I could use your argument to say the same thing about drunk drivers. They've always been already, you can't always spot them, and often they are people you thought were respectable.

Because I guess my handbags is just my vice in life. I have never done anything illegal (besides buying a fake bag) or gone to jail. I don't live my life like that and you would be surprised how many people like straight lives BUT carry fake bags or buy bootleg movies.

They should be looking out for ALL criminal activity.

That is very true. I don't know. So I give random people I see on the street the benefit of a doubt and assume the purses they carry were made legally. Just as I assume the money in their wallets was printed by the U.S. Mint. And if some art thief swapped the Mona Lisa for a skillfully made fake, I'd not be able to spot that difference either. However, just because a forgery is made with skill, that doesn't somehow make it more ok than a forgery that is poorly made.

"I guess we just don't understand why it is so important to own a designer handbag and try to impress people by pretending it's the "real" thing. Personally I think most of them are ugly."

Amen to that. I know as the resident gay woman it will come as a suprise to know one that I have NEVER understood the fascination straight women have with handbags and shoes -- good lord I can't think of anything more boring to shop for.... LOL.

Yes. We. Did.
