Will my child remember that I was a SAHM

It struck me today that she might not.

I was sure I was doing the best thing for my children by staying home with them (two daughters-3 years old, and 4 months old). As I was talking to a dear aunt of mine (whose daughter is a working mother, since her infant was 12 weeks old), I felt my defensive bristles go up.

She went on and on about how "If she could do it all over again....she wouldn't have stayed home....." Then she told me a story in which her ds said to her, "mom, did you stay at home with us, or did you drop us off at daycare?" She almost died when he asked her that, because she stayed at home with her ds and dd until he entered kindergarten. Granted, many kindergartners haven't formed lasting memories by that age yet...but still. It got me thinking; is this ALL WORTH IT?

She was using it in her argument against staying at home. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling that I am not using. My career lies dormant at this time. We don't have cable, newspaper service, vacations, frills of any kind, new cars, etc. because of our money situation. We are middle-class and have sacrificed SO MUCH...only for me to hear from my aunt that..."her daughter needs to work to maintain their lifestyle." Yeah, driving a Volvo, she probably does....

I just need to hear from some of you who frequent this board and have solid opinions one way or the other on this topic.

<<I don't care that my dress was a knock off.>>

Oh, only if it's your personal design do you care.

Did they put their name or the other designer's name on it?

Did it have the brand name on it? If not, it's not the same thing. There are plenty of handbags in Target that look a lot like LVs, that DON'T say LV on them.

It was from a legimate company so that is why I bought it. The saleswoman told me it was a knock off and I got a magazine to see the original. It was very close but 1/2 the money.

They put their name but part of their business is to knock off original gowns.

Really? I go to Target every week and never see any bags that look like designer bags. I do like their straw bags for the summer but none of them had a zipper in them so I did not get it.
They had one for $2.50 last week but again there was no zipper. I have a bag already without the zipper and I don't like to walk around with all my things showing to the public.

Gee, i'm out one day being sick and I miss like 200 posts! Wow :)

Anyway, back to topic. I agree with you here pumpkin, someone else's work status does not really concern me. Whether a girl friend of mine wants to work or stay home really does not affect me personally. If she were to ask me for advice or help I would try my best, but if another mom wants to work or not, doesn't change my opinion of her in any way.

Work Status is most important to the people it affects directly. Namely the parents and children of the immediate family.

personally, 300$ is a waste of money for any 'accessory'. 50$ is usually pushing it for me.

I spend 20$ on a purse/bag that I use till the strap falls off then I go get another. I haven't found someone who tried to find the brand label on my purse yet or ask about it.

I hate paying money simply for the brand name on it, so I usually avoid it at all costs.

Just my thoughts on the subject

"Someone designed them. I don't see the big deal about "big name purses" anyway. Money ill spent in my book."

Status symbol? Showing off? I can't think of why someone would buy a particular brand (other than it's actually excellent quality and functional)
