Will my child remember that I was a SAHM

It struck me today that she might not.

I was sure I was doing the best thing for my children by staying home with them (two daughters-3 years old, and 4 months old). As I was talking to a dear aunt of mine (whose daughter is a working mother, since her infant was 12 weeks old), I felt my defensive bristles go up.

She went on and on about how "If she could do it all over again....she wouldn't have stayed home....." Then she told me a story in which her ds said to her, "mom, did you stay at home with us, or did you drop us off at daycare?" She almost died when he asked her that, because she stayed at home with her ds and dd until he entered kindergarten. Granted, many kindergartners haven't formed lasting memories by that age yet...but still. It got me thinking; is this ALL WORTH IT?

She was using it in her argument against staying at home. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling that I am not using. My career lies dormant at this time. We don't have cable, newspaper service, vacations, frills of any kind, new cars, etc. because of our money situation. We are middle-class and have sacrificed SO MUCH...only for me to hear from my aunt that..."her daughter needs to work to maintain their lifestyle." Yeah, driving a Volvo, she probably does....

I just need to hear from some of you who frequent this board and have solid opinions one way or the other on this topic.

Yes. You could even go to Macy's and buy a bag that is a knockoff in the way that your wedding dress was. Is there any reason you don't buy those types instead of the illegal ones? Or is it because you like the name?

I have no idea what you are talking about here.

Honestly, don't you just feel gross carrying a fake??? How could it be fun to own one? Even if no one can tell, even if you never get caught, how can it be satisfying to pretend that you own a designer purse? I just don't get this at all.

I prefer certain bags over others. I have not gotten a fake one since I was on vacation and probably won't for awhile as I don't know anyone having a party and I won't be having one anytime soon.
I have plenty of bags right now (real and fake designers) that I don't need anything for awhile.

You asked me if I could afford the real bag. I said if I took a day off from work and not put my daughter in camp or child care, then I could buy one but I would rather save my days when I really need to take them off instead of buying a new bag.

I buy it because I like it, not to try and impress anyone. I have the real thing too so I can easily carry that around if I was to impress anyone. I like the look of the bag and how well it is made.

The kids in our local child care settings *are* members of the community, and I didn't actually worry about the cost of using these settings because they were high quality in every way. I never had a mom's group take my kids on a field trip to the zoo!

How would taking the day off and taking your child out of daycare make a bag affordable? For the record I didnt ask you if you could afford the real bag.

Easily the dumbest argument ever wrt a purse. SOMEONE designed it. There *are* those of us who care more about a purse's functionality than for stealing the name of someone famous in order to APPEAR as if one were affluent when one clearly isn't.
