Will my child remember that I was a SAHM

It struck me today that she might not.

I was sure I was doing the best thing for my children by staying home with them (two daughters-3 years old, and 4 months old). As I was talking to a dear aunt of mine (whose daughter is a working mother, since her infant was 12 weeks old), I felt my defensive bristles go up.

She went on and on about how "If she could do it all over again....she wouldn't have stayed home....." Then she told me a story in which her ds said to her, "mom, did you stay at home with us, or did you drop us off at daycare?" She almost died when he asked her that, because she stayed at home with her ds and dd until he entered kindergarten. Granted, many kindergartners haven't formed lasting memories by that age yet...but still. It got me thinking; is this ALL WORTH IT?

She was using it in her argument against staying at home. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling that I am not using. My career lies dormant at this time. We don't have cable, newspaper service, vacations, frills of any kind, new cars, etc. because of our money situation. We are middle-class and have sacrificed SO MUCH...only for me to hear from my aunt that..."her daughter needs to work to maintain their lifestyle." Yeah, driving a Volvo, she probably does....

I just need to hear from some of you who frequent this board and have solid opinions one way or the other on this topic.

Why do you think the stars carry around a new bag every week? It is given to them from the designers who want to get their name out there.

would they come after a suburban housewife who has never committed a crime before or would they go after the person who supplied the bags? I think there are lawyers on this board that can tell us if that's worth their while.

"You're not in the market for designer bags/clothes? I'm shocked, just shocked."

I'm not. I'll avoid them on purpose. Not everyone wants to show off the name brand of their clothes. I don't want to wear a 'Tommy' or whoever else makes clothes now. I never owned anything 'Guess' in high school. It's waaaaay overpriced anyway.

Why do people pay that much? Simply for the label on the collar or the self-absorbed designers name embroidered across the front? I'm honestly curious.

That was the debate.

You can get great deals at the outlets. My aunt bought a really nice Coach bag at the outlet for $70. Now you know if I go there, they will have nothing!!
Right place, right time!!!

You haven't answered the question if you buy clothes that are made by minors in factories where they are forced to fill a quota and not being paid a living wage to support their families? Everyone here is sitting at their computers clothes, would you agree with that statement? i can be pretty positive in stating that everyone is wearing something or has something in their closets or bureaus that is made in illegal situations. My point is that a few of the posters are speaking out of both sides of their mouths. Preaching a sermon but living another.

No, it is not credit like you would have to do. I would have that extra cash that week but I choose not to.
