On the economical side of things, a comparison needs to be made between the homemaker and working-wife families.

Ok, thanks. :) It seems by the few replies, there's a variation in how ppl define a sahm.

I know, from my perspective, this has stumped me up a few times while trying to get my point across as well as trying to understand what another is saying.

>>Exactly. Many people on here and IRL have said that they couldn't stay home with their kids, it would drive them crazy. <<

Many years ago I had a discussion with my neighbor. She worked FT and I was home FT. She told me she just couldn't stay home. She wouldn't even know what to do with a child all day. She said it would drive her crazy.

I don't know, I kind of took it as a compliment. :) I'm also kind of a tad bit envious she can juggle work, family and keep her house spotless!

>> What would the alternative be when you say selfish need to keep a child, putting them up for adoption? <<

Yes, the PP has said that.

I do not post here very often..I'm more of a lurker and like to see other peoples point of views, but i have to post and say that i agree with digiac4.

"The wife needs to make every effort to ensure her marriage works. If a settlement can't be reached, she needs to think of the child, not her selfish need to keep a child she is incapable of caring for"

to me this is saying that the wife needs to either make the marriage work or just suck it up until the kids are older?, because if there were to be a divorce she is being selfish and she is then incapable of caring for her child?

i am a working mother of 2. i value every single minute i get with my boys. i was in an extremely abusive marriage and for my SAFETY and FOR the welfare of my children i decided to end it. i now work 2 days per week and every other weekend. i work from 11am-midnight. on those days the boys spend time with their uncle who is a great with them. i work more hours in a day and less days per week, so i can spend that time with my boys, because lack of child support or any support for that matter i must solely support my children.

i do not think for any second that i am "better" than any other mom or for that matter, think any other mom is "better" than me. i believe that we all have our own circumstances and must do what is BEST for the children, whether that be work or stay at home.
