WOH and sleeping issues

We were at a dinner party last night at the home of one of dh's coworkers. They have 2 boys, 6 and 4. They have a bunch of sleeping issues (kids 'scared' at night, won't fall asleep in their own bed, won't go to bed without mom or dad cuddling them, etc.) The mom blames herself because since she works all day and misses them so much she tends to cuddle with them late at night and they fall asleep in a pile on the bed all together. She said that if she SAH, they wouldn't have the same issues.

I sah. For us, bed time is a rigid, welcome respite at the end of the day. Dh has no desire to keep them up either, lol.

Happy as clams for HOURS?! Not my children, nor the children of any of our friends.

You have a way to avoid ever hearing "I'm bored" from children?

Who needs a parent if that's considered advice?

Why do you want to predispose your children to have such unenjoyable social lives. Does part of you hope to keep them at home, not having them, as long as possible?

Candy isn't used as a bribe in my house.

It's better with 5 year olds than 3 year olds.

With no audience, they can be left to their own devices for up to 10 minutes.

I've found that exposing my children to noise while sleeping as tiny infants improved their sleep habits as they got older.

That would not be a parenting issue. That would be a human relationship issue. You really do make too much difficulty of this parent thing. Creating hills that don't need to be there and slapping the labele "parenting" on it, then finding hills that are there, parent or not, and deciding to slap the label "parenting" on that too.
