WOH and sleeping issues

We were at a dinner party last night at the home of one of dh's coworkers. They have 2 boys, 6 and 4. They have a bunch of sleeping issues (kids 'scared' at night, won't fall asleep in their own bed, won't go to bed without mom or dad cuddling them, etc.) The mom blames herself because since she works all day and misses them so much she tends to cuddle with them late at night and they fall asleep in a pile on the bed all together. She said that if she SAH, they wouldn't have the same issues.

I sah. For us, bed time is a rigid, welcome respite at the end of the day. Dh has no desire to keep them up either, lol.

Like what (anything in the parenting realm)?

In other words, you'd rather make your children adjust and fall asleep in a strange house so you can keep socializing so you don't have to go through the "hassle" of getting a sitter.

I'd be willing to ship four children your way for a week or two, if that would help? You could test the border collies' herding skills...

If I remember correctly, getting hit on by a person recently diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease at a clinic where the diagnosis was made was a little unnerving to Dogma. I don't know if it qualifies as something that actually fazed her though.

Don't you think it would be better for children to be able to adjust to their surroundings, so at least that for those times when it is unavoidable they aren't all screwed up?

I didn't think I implied anything of the sort.

The children are asleep and with the children in my experience, no adjustment was needed, it wasn't a strange house but the house of parent's friends.....so their needs are met.....why is it selfish?
