WOH and sleeping issues
| Sun, 05-22-2005 - 10:34am |
We were at a dinner party last night at the home of one of dh's coworkers. They have 2 boys, 6 and 4. They have a bunch of sleeping issues (kids 'scared' at night, won't fall asleep in their own bed, won't go to bed without mom or dad cuddling them, etc.) The mom blames herself because since she works all day and misses them so much she tends to cuddle with them late at night and they fall asleep in a pile on the bed all together. She said that if she SAH, they wouldn't have the same issues.
I sah. For us, bed time is a rigid, welcome respite at the end of the day. Dh has no desire to keep them up either, lol.

Congratulations, you and dogma totally agree. As I told her, you're entitled to your opinion.

LOL at free babysitting! I think you're onto something here.
We've had friends over our house for New Years. It's very casual, but everyone usually hires a babysitter. One year however we had 2 families bring their 6 children. Maybe it's because they were co-sleeping families, but they drove around (as in get on the highway for the sole purpose of putting the children to sleep) before coming into our house at 9 pm so the kids would fall asleep in the car. Then transfer to beds upstairs.
But the children woke each other up around 11 pm. The children were of course cranky, and the New Years ball drop was completely overlooked because the focus turned to the 6 cranky children. I think everyone ~ the children especially ~ would have been much happier if all of the parents had just hired babysitters for the night.

If that's how typical 5 year olds act, they should be supervised closely so as not to start fights or break things.
