WOH and sleeping issues

We were at a dinner party last night at the home of one of dh's coworkers. They have 2 boys, 6 and 4. They have a bunch of sleeping issues (kids 'scared' at night, won't fall asleep in their own bed, won't go to bed without mom or dad cuddling them, etc.) The mom blames herself because since she works all day and misses them so much she tends to cuddle with them late at night and they fall asleep in a pile on the bed all together. She said that if she SAH, they wouldn't have the same issues.

I sah. For us, bed time is a rigid, welcome respite at the end of the day. Dh has no desire to keep them up either, lol.

I think the fact that you intervene every five minutes IS causing them to misbehave every five minutes. It is an absolute fact that kids that age can behave longer than five minutes unsupervised. They can even behave for more than an hour.
i know it, because I have seen it. The fact that you and LTB so zealously run to ther rescue tells me that is the problem. Try letting THEM use their problem solving skills. There are many ways you can do this. It can truly make your life easier.

"Highbrow" is one word.
Congratulations! I'm so happy to hear it. I just heard the good news and popped back over, just in case you were still checking in.

Since it seems to have gotten us children who don't act like they stepped straight out of The Lord of the Flies if left to their own devices for ten straight minutes, "slacker" appears to be a VERY good way to parent.

Do you really think it's age-appropriate for a 6yo to be unable to play with friends for longer than 10 minutes at a time? Jeez. How is he going to handle recess and lunch?

DH is the only one who's broken any object at someone's party in the last 5 years. I do something to myself that requires, at a minimum, an ice pack about every two months. I can't remember the last time DS injured himself or someone else, and the only time he ever has, has been tripping incidents that didn't so much as require stitches.

I'm pretty sure this post was meant as a response to Felicia, not me.

ITA. If I had to hover over my 5.5yo at a party, I would consider myself a slacker, because that would be clear evidence that I hadn't bothered to put in the effort to civilize him at any point over the previous 5.5 years.
