WOH and sleeping issues

We were at a dinner party last night at the home of one of dh's coworkers. They have 2 boys, 6 and 4. They have a bunch of sleeping issues (kids 'scared' at night, won't fall asleep in their own bed, won't go to bed without mom or dad cuddling them, etc.) The mom blames herself because since she works all day and misses them so much she tends to cuddle with them late at night and they fall asleep in a pile on the bed all together. She said that if she SAH, they wouldn't have the same issues.

I sah. For us, bed time is a rigid, welcome respite at the end of the day. Dh has no desire to keep them up either, lol.

I don't care what anybody says - doing certain things at 40 is not at all like doing them at 20.

I took off for Europe on a couple of whims before having children. It's not the sort of thing I need to do every year, or even every five years.

A client of mine used to work for an online travel broker, so as part of the deal, he got free flights on one particular airline. Every Friday after work, he and his wife went to Gate 7 at that airline's terminal, and wherever the flight was going, they went. One week it was Acapulco, the next Detroit, the next New Orleans. They are trying desperately to get pregnant now, and I doubt that they'll regret the lost Gate 7 flights, because they've already done it.

(I don't have much of a point after all, but I do like to share the Gate 7 story because I think it's cool)

Congratulations! I'm so happy to hear it. I just heard the good news and popped back over, just in case you were still checking in.

That's the thing. There are many, many lifestyles which go along with life with small children. I can't help but notice that both you and Meldi have chosen lifestyles which restrict your ability to do things the way you used to far more than many people have chosen. And that you and Meldi are among the most frequent "venters" about how much less content you are with life with small children. Coincidence?

I guess I have to reiterate that it's best for my children IMO to have the life I'm providing for them.

There's always Viagra. ;-)

I meant, deferred until you can get a sitter, not for 20 years.

I don't know, I've read all the posts, what's the answer?

Great point. Meldi, your posts in this thread are all about not being judgmental, but you're being quite judgmental yourself. I love 2.5. I think it's my favorite age, with both sons. It's not because I'm pining for three years ago. It's just how I feel.

2.5yos say the *craziest* things. It's like when an alien lands on earth and finally learns enough English to tell you about his world. It's interesting, it's bizarre, it's funny, it's otherworldly in a lot of ways. It's sublime.

I don't say that to make you or your mother feel bad, and I don't say it as the result of some character flaw of my own. Honestly. It's really OK for me to feel this way.

LOL. See, I am glad I saw Thomas the Tank Engine with Alec Baldwin. It gave me an insight into British character that I don't think I could have gotten otherwise. The fact that the only compliment anyone ever gets is, "You are a really useful engine," says it all, doesn't it? ;)
