WOH and sleeping issues

We were at a dinner party last night at the home of one of dh's coworkers. They have 2 boys, 6 and 4. They have a bunch of sleeping issues (kids 'scared' at night, won't fall asleep in their own bed, won't go to bed without mom or dad cuddling them, etc.) The mom blames herself because since she works all day and misses them so much she tends to cuddle with them late at night and they fall asleep in a pile on the bed all together. She said that if she SAH, they wouldn't have the same issues.

I sah. For us, bed time is a rigid, welcome respite at the end of the day. Dh has no desire to keep them up either, lol.

Then let's hear it for lower expectations, because other people are a lot more excited about their lives than you are.

That sounds great.

Your post reminded me of a conversation I had with my neighbor last year. Her daughter is 6 and I said, "Oh, has she been to a sleepover party yet?" Because I LOVED sleepovers as a kid and I bought a trundle bed for Aspen with the potential of sleepovers in mind. She said, "Nooooo...dh won't ever allow her to sleepover and most people don't do that anymore....too many creeps out there and *you never know*."

And I was thinking, "Oooohhhh noooooo..." lol. Sigh. We'll see.

TO Dogma and/or PNJ:

But are they lower expectations, or just realistic expectations?

I had the impression you lived in DC and not on a deserted island. Maybe you really should move to Syracuse. There are many, many people here I find enjoyable that I see on a regular basis. (But maybe I just have low expectations.)

Really, though, why pine over no longer having thousands of coeds with whom to party when you aren't interested in partying with thousands of coeds?

My boys like having sleep overs. DS1 slept over his friend's house last night. DS2 sleeps over his two best friends houses. We usually let them when it's someone we know. But we're not having anyone sleep over our house until our bathroom is finished. Right now our upstairs bath is gutted and all the tile, new fixtures, bath tub, etc. are in the playroom. That's where the boys have their sleep overs. The play room is a bit crowded at the moment.

We are "allowed" 3 weeks of vacation time a year. But really, no one cares, sicne the true requirement is the billable hours requirement. I've never taken more than 5 vacation days in a year since I started work.

If she wants to see me as settling for something insufficient rather than being realistic, that's OK with me, as I am genuinely happy with what I have.

That's not a downside of "working for the big bucks." Many lawyers are working at their jobs because they are really, really stimulated by what they do, rather than the money alone. Just like people at many other types of jobs.

Yes, but only because mom thought that dad would respect her opinion if she were employed.
