"what i'm speaking of are corporate jobs, call center environments (and more office specific jobs with computer specific programs) that limit *and* in some places, disallow all together internet access. his environment is certainly not unique, unlike some jobs who could care less how their employee dollar is spent."
I'm sure you realise that the internet is used for far more than reading and posting to message boards, right? I know that I couldn't do my job without constant internet access, I suspect that is true of many corporate and office jobs. Even basic purchasing for company supplies is often done through the internet these days, and often by fairly low-on-the-totem-pole employees.

No she doesn't.

That may work in the collections field; it doesn't necessary work in other fields. In mine, for instance, I can't go "get more work."
thank you for speculating what types of jobs i think are here,too....i don't deny that one needs internet access to work. what i find laughable at this point is the defensive remark that it's just another window i'm allowed to surf during the day, boss plays too, yada yada...that is *not* some modern technology in the work world today. that's a job that's probably underpaid and lacks passion.
and fwiw,dh sort of job is evolving. a call center environment is the direction a lot of companies are going. in houston alone, there are many areas of business that are going that direction - from finance to pharmaceutical to medical and oil divisions. centralizing divisions is replacing smaller outfits wasting overhead dollars,i'm sure.

Somewhat, yeah. In my instance, I *am* underpaid. However, I really enjoy what I do and am developing a passion for it. Unfortunately, I'm capable of much more and would like to do much more; this job doesn't allow for that. Thus the big interview in three weeks (ACK! I'm so nervous) for a job that IS what I do now, only MORE.

Did I say they weren't? I believe what she was pointing out was that one person is being paid to do something else. Let me put it this way. What would your reaction be if you found out your DCP was surfing the net during the day while she is suppose to be watching your children?
<>
I believe I said that as well.

I don't think it is a personal attack. That is why I mentioned it. Like I stated I think it is because some do not like to be called out on what they are doing. I guess going on with that thought we are all guilty of that. Who likes to be called out on some things we do?
Calling someone out on something that has absolutely nothing to do with the debate *is* an attack. It was initially brought up in this thread as an attack, if you take the time to scroll back to the origin. And I think every single person here will readily admit that there is *always* something else they could be doing-thats what makes the finger pointing so laughable and hypocritical.
