For those of you that WOH and say you have to do it to make ends meet. Do you really do it to make ends meet or do you do it cause you want to keep up a certain lifestyle? Do you know how to live with out debt or without having to keep up with the joneses?

ETA Please excuse all my siggys. Obviously I dont know how to turn them off. I thought I did.

I would love to be able to stay home with my children. And yes I am sure my husband and I could make some lifestyle changes so we could live on his salary. Unfortunately my job is the one that carries the health insurance for my entire family. I don't consider being able to take care of my children's health as keeping up with the Joneses.

Right, but that doesnt mean that shiftwork does not encompass other hours too. You asked about professions that are well paid and do *shiftwork*. There are many, and some can include regular daylight hours too. Shiftwork does not mean just working nights. Its very likely that her job offers regular hours in addition to night hours, but she purposely chooses a night shift.

I'm not sure what you're arguing here?

I take it for granted that just about every poster here works in one way or another.

Not always, We have an aquaintance who is an ER doc on the graveyard shift. Those are the hours he works regularly and those that he prefers. Yes, occasionally he has to come in during "normal working hours" to attend an "all hands meeting"- but other than that- no.

One would wonder what that has to do with anything?

I wouldn't be offended if I were posting here and someone said I was neglecting my family. If my children were posted up in front of the television while I was hanging out here for quite a while that statement would be true. Not to mention I am not being paid to SAH.

Sure I understand it. However if I was paying someone to care for my children and I know that they spent quite a bit of time here...I wouldn't be happy.
