No, but it isn't an unexpected or unknown part of military life, especially after 9/11.
AND. . .after the first deployment, military parents have the choice to get out or not re-enlist. . .and many continue their careers, making a CHOICE to live with deployments. I know, because my ex re-enlisted during his first tour of Iraq, knowing he'd need to go back and accepted an appointment to Officer Candidate School during his second tour of Iraq, knowing it would mean he would be away from the kids nearly immediately upon his return from Iraq.

Well if you had been following it then you wouldn't be asking me this.

I was responding to a statement the OP made.

Again it was a response to a statement the OP made.

Note what I said in the second post. My experience with this is quite limited.

Has she stated that he joined the military since 9/11? Maybe he has been in the service for much longer than that.
Yes it is.

Because you specifically chose to bring this situation into the debate and state that it was odd.

Meaning what?

It wasn't unknown before 9/11. . .it's just that the likelihood of multiple, multi-month deployments in quick succession is a greater certainty now than prior to 9/11.
If he's been in since before 9/11, then he's likely re-enlised SINCE 9/11 since that was five years ago. . .making your point moot.
Oh. . .and her dh is in the Navy/Marines (since she shows a ship on her countdown ticker) so he absolutely KNEW he'd have to go on six month cruises when he joined, even in peace time. . .again, making your point moot.
It doesn't matter when they joined the service.

Well signing up for a drivers license carries a risk of getting into an accident and gettting injured or killed. Again sigining up is a voluntary thing. Being deployed is not a voluntary thing.
