For those of you that WOH and say you have to do it to make ends meet. Do you really do it to make ends meet or do you do it cause you want to keep up a certain lifestyle? Do you know how to live with out debt or without having to keep up with the joneses?

No, because being deployed isn't something that's just done to you. Enlisting in the military involves a conscious decision and acceptance of the possibility of deployment...you just don't know when (or if) it's going to happen.

How is that anything like any situation where one becomes the victim of another person's negligence?

Yep, also like that woman who is now a conscientous objector to this war and is asking to be relieved of duty right after completing her MD courtesy of the federal government. Oh yeah, she didn't realize during her entire time in med school that a war was going on and she might have to go to live up to that four year committment she agreed to while cashing her tuition checks.

I've been driving for 27 years and I've never once agreed to let someone hit me with their car.

If I were to join the military, I would be making an agreement with the military that they could deploy me at the time of their choosing.

That's the difference.
