The board is slow, so I'm going to throw something out.

I just remembered to ask my middle school dd about axe last night. She says the girls hate it. The worst was when a boy sprayed some on the bus--the girls were gagging all the way to school.

Posting to the end here, but my mother is a middle school teacher and I had to ask her how she stands the smell of axe and stinky middle school boy. She said

"They douse themselves in it. 8th graders are the worst. You just have to be a mouth breather!"

That sounds like a fun tradition. I take my younger one to school, and every now and then we get up a little early and go out to breakfast together, which is a nice treat. DH does the same thing with dd1--they occasionally go out for cinnamon rolls at the place near the bus stop.

When my kids were very little, we had a couple of "alone time" traditions that they really looked forward to. For instance, when the older one started school, every Friday after I dropped the older one off my younger one and I would do something special together, just us. It could be going to the library, or maybe out for a cup of coffee and hot chocolate, but whatever it was, I know my little one looked forward to Fridays, something out of the ordinary in terms of a mini-trip, and undivided attention from Mom for a an hour and a half or so. It was one of the things he missed when he started kindergarten!

not out of some panic of "I haven't spent enough time with X lately

I do that sometimes. Usually its AD b/c he is my quiet, low key, kow maintence child. Aside from taking him to ballet 1x a week we are rarely alone, but for the 15-30 mins a night to go over spelling words.

The other 3, well I sleep with the baby, I homeschool the oldest girl (and the baby) and my oldest son seeks my company everynight after the others go to bed.

But yep, AD will not vye for my time. I have to give it to him. So every once in a while I get a panic saying "I havent spent any time alone with AD this weekend.

*Praying for my best friend, my Dad*

Right, we go through busy times too, but it still happens frequently enough that we don't need to schedule it.
