If she's a college professor, why is she working at WalMart? Undercover research?

my kid asks for and gets a fountain soft drink (usually diet coke) when we're out.

My kids drink of choice is water too. A gallon of milk lasts a long time in our house, even with four kids! I have to practically beg them to drink it! I love water too. Except for special occasions, the only drinks we have in our house are water, milk and occasionally OJ.

I could have written your post myself!

At home, we have water, a little milk and occasionally OJ.

When out, my kids usually choose b/w Sprite and lemonade. I don't allow them to have caffeinated drinks. My younger two will often choose chocolate milk instead of Sprite and lemonade. Occasionally one of them will request water. My car is always full of refillable water bottles b/c they are constantly thirsty in the car.

The only time I even buy soda or juice is if we are having a party.

Ha, that's what I do sometimes! I can't even drink a regular sized soda from a restaurant these days. They are HUGE! We recently were driving down to the beach and stopped for dinner along the way at some awful fast food place (I only like Chik Fil A and it wasn't one of those). I remember commenting to dh when they handed him my "small" size drink that the "small" was the same size as a "large" from when I was a kid. It's ridiculous what the serving sizes are these days! The size they gave the kids is what a true "small" should be, not the 20 oz they gave me!
