OK - point taken.

But let's say you have two moms with accounting degrees, one's been working for the last 10 years, while the other has SAH.

You are correct if you are comparing two people with the same degree.

But how about a WOHM high school graduate who makes $9.00 an hour working in a factory and a SAHM who has a medical or law degree.

I think that's all you can do is compare apples to apples.

I was not much better off being a WOHM than I was as a SAHM when it comes to supporting a family. I barely make what some would consider a living wage and in the past it was not even close. In the event of a divorce I could support myself but not kids (a none issue since mine are all adults and two make more than I do).

Another question that could be asked:

Are the majority of WOHM's bringing in a living wage?

I don't think they are. Many are working at jobs that pay low wages or are working part time. Getting a divorce is not magically going to fix that.

While many WOHMs incomes are great as a secondary income it would not be much help as an only income.

I do not think that work status makes a difference with that.

Stress can have a lot to do with it so if the work situation is stressful then that can effect the marriage. But I do not think that either group has automaicaly more stress.

You wouldn't have to support your kids on your income alone, because there would be child support, and if your income was really that low, maybe some sort of assistance.
