That's a scary line of thinking to me.

Or the father works (or starts to work to avoid cs) off the books to avoid cs payments.

"You wouldn't have to support your kids on your income alone, because there would be child support, and if your income was really that low, maybe some sort of assistance. Regardless, you are closer to being able to make it than you would be if you had no job at all."

Would not the same be true of a SAHM? I make about $25,000 a year, there are many SAHMs with the education and background that would allow them to find a job that pays more than that even with a break in employment. I would be no better off than them just because I am already in the work force.

You should check out your local battered women's shelter. Over the course of a year, I am sure you could meet quite a few women who have put up with a lot from their husbands or partners, in part because they do not believe they could support themselves or their children should they choose to leave an abusive relationship.

I am not talking about abandoned wives. I am talking about women who are in abusive relationships that they fail to leave because they fear not being able to support themselves and their children. They exist. You run in to them from time to time in battered women's shelters. You said you didn't know any of them, I was suggesting a place where you could find them, should you doubt their existence.

i'm thinking her point is that two moms, same level of education but one who has not interrupted her working with SAH while the other has.
