I'm done answering questions about my kid's school, but I'll answer this hypothetically. If kids aren't supposed to be there without a reason, they won't be wandering around the building with nothing in particular to do. They'll be in an activity, and once they get there, the teacher knows they're there and is keeping an eye on them, even if she's not letting them out of her sight for a second as you seem to imagine. If a kid goes to the bathroom or to get supplies or something and doesn't come back, somebody knows and can follow up. If you're a school that's lucky enough to have security, if security finds somebody wandering around without a reason, they can send them to a supervised area to wait for a ride or back to the activity or whatever.

I can't answer that question because I don't think that. I've said nothing that indicates I do.

Yes, I said society has changed. What about my words indicates that that change is <<kids are not getting in trouble like kids our age did 20 + years ago? >>

Sigh. Supervision doesn't have to mean constant line of sight as you originally defined it. We've talked about all different kinds of supervision, some methods provide more supervision and some less. I don't know of any HS or MS that doesn't provide some supervision of students.

Being in a supervised activity means there's an activity going on that is being supervised by an adult. It doesn't mean the adult is walking kids from room to room or that the adult (or the kid) never leaves the room. It doesn't mean they're signed in or out. It means they're not hanging out with nothing in particular to do and no one even knowing they're in the building or checking on them.

I never said HS kids were required to be supervised at all times. I said that if they want to be in the building after school, they need to be participating in a supervised activity.

I do think MS and HS kids need supervision. While I don't think it needs to be the same level as elementary school kids, the troubles older kids can get into are much bigger.

What do you think has changed in society from when we were in m/s and h/s?
