The walking alone thing again?

When this tangent started I began by saying the situations where I would treat sons/daughters was limited. Most things are gender equal, a few are not for good reasons. It's pretty much this and maybe a couple other risk-based situations where I would handle the situation different for a daughter compared to a son.

Do you think that your tween or teen is more at risk among peers and their various influences, e.g. drinking alcohol, drugs, unprotected sex, date rape, than walking alone in a dark place? I see those risks as an equal gender opportunity, don't you?

Well date rape is not the same risk for boys/girls. But in general all of those risks do concern me more than walking alone in the dark, yes.

It varies around here for the public schools, I know that there are schools that require security....I don't know any school that considers the need for security a good thing.

I've asked mom34, no answer....but does your school have a security guard, and why?

What are the problems then?

I did answer already. We have roving security guards. They patrol the entire school district.

Man, they have those kids locked down! The middle school is designated to sit ini a particular section, the junior high in another section, the hs in another. There are teachers on duty in each section, and there are police officers on foot patrol around the entire stadium. After I attended one game with her, I had no qualms about letting her attend future ones without me.

This is very different from how our HS football games are run. There aren't teachers on duty to watch the kids in the audience. Teens are running everywhere back and forth to the snack stand and in and out of the stadium, walking all around socializing. They do have police officers walking around though, and it doesn't strike me as unsafe for an older teen, possibly even a younger teen with a group of friends.
