? for working moms

My son is six months old, and I have been back to work full time for four weeks.

I became upset over the weekend when two people (who are very close to me) made comments such as: "it seems like it would be so much easier to drop your kids off at daycare and work full time than to stay home", and even worse, "it's clearly easier to work and have someone else raise your kids than stay home". Both were stated by mothers who have never been in the position of working full-time with children. I disagree thoroughly with both comments (my life is certainly NOT easier now that I'm back to work!)

So... without stiring up the hornet's nest that is the "mommy war"... I am curious, how can I respond to statements like this? Should I respond, or just let it go? How long does it take to get over hearing hurtful things like this?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

After my medical and dental, life insurance, 401K and daycare is taken out of my check, the unemployment check would be the same!

Oh, I thought you were the one married for 12 years. How long then?

I thought the whole debate over whether the restaurant PNJ said she went to actually existed was ridiculous.

I'm not negative on Port Jefferson. Just that as my one visit wasn't overly impressive, as I can't recall much about the restaurant to even report in on whether it was good, what I ate, what it was called. I think if it was more impressive, I'd have more recall to the visit.

However, you see nothing wrong with judging others when *the worst* does happen to them

Yes, that sounds right, but most likely the determination is partly based on the employer's report of why the employee was terminated. It has been ages though since I last dealt with this.

Ownership when kids enter the picture is not always the more sensible approach. I live in an expensive town with very good schools. Houses are somewhat pricey. (This often goes along with good schools, it seems.) There are also a handful of apartment complexes in this town. Those apartments get snapped up by families with kids. Many people who couldn't affrd to buy here can afford to rent one of those apartments. Thus they get access to a better school system than they would have if they stuck only to places where they could afford to buy. Very wise move on their part.

OK, but if you were hoping to work, you would still need daycare and if you got fired you would need cobra to maintain your insurance. I think that can run close to 1000 a month if the kids are on your insurance, but I have not seen the prices in a while.

You do understand the company has to agree to it or deny it based on laws established in NY state don't you? The company does not govern itself as to whether it must or must not agree to pay unemployment and does not have autonomy in this or most areas.
