? for working moms

My son is six months old, and I have been back to work full time for four weeks.

I became upset over the weekend when two people (who are very close to me) made comments such as: "it seems like it would be so much easier to drop your kids off at daycare and work full time than to stay home", and even worse, "it's clearly easier to work and have someone else raise your kids than stay home". Both were stated by mothers who have never been in the position of working full-time with children. I disagree thoroughly with both comments (my life is certainly NOT easier now that I'm back to work!)

So... without stiring up the hornet's nest that is the "mommy war"... I am curious, how can I respond to statements like this? Should I respond, or just let it go? How long does it take to get over hearing hurtful things like this?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Then why on earth did you even bring this into the discussion?

If this happened within the next 5 months and I found a job within then, yes, I would.

Yes, people who are actively searching for a job.

People that might be able to watch the child would include DH (on a long lunch break, perhaps), a friend, neighbor, relative, or church acquaintance.

DH could take a personal day or two, after which there are probably a lot of home daycare providers that would take a single kindergarten-age child (at least there are in my area). It might not be the best daycare situation, but it might do until either Kindergarten starts or she finds a better daycare provider with her new paycheck.

In the meantime, it is possible to search job ads, make calls, pick up applications and fill them out while your child is with you.

I completely understand that. I just got the impression, though, that RLGL does have people that she could call upon to watch her child on short notice while she was on an interview.

ROFL! Good point. I don't know the temperament of her child. :-)
