? for working moms

My son is six months old, and I have been back to work full time for four weeks.

I became upset over the weekend when two people (who are very close to me) made comments such as: "it seems like it would be so much easier to drop your kids off at daycare and work full time than to stay home", and even worse, "it's clearly easier to work and have someone else raise your kids than stay home". Both were stated by mothers who have never been in the position of working full-time with children. I disagree thoroughly with both comments (my life is certainly NOT easier now that I'm back to work!)

So... without stiring up the hornet's nest that is the "mommy war"... I am curious, how can I respond to statements like this? Should I respond, or just let it go? How long does it take to get over hearing hurtful things like this?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

LOL, yeah, I don't know WHY I get such dirty looks when I start minor construction by the swing sets. :-)

That would make a fun social psych experiment, though. Hmmm....

Ok, to clear this up, when I have babysat my gf's dd, it was when school was closed and I took a day for my dd also. She had to work and I was helping her out.

IF anyone needed me for a dire emergency, like losing their job or other emergency though, I would take a day to help them out.

LOL, yes, to me the whole point of the park is sort of that lack of privacy.

But if these people had savings and plans as you have stated, this shouldn't occur....correct?

Ah, okay, see I thought we were still talking about finding someone to watch a child so that one could go on a short-notice job interview. Non-emergency, of course that number would go down significantly. I certainly don't expect anyone to cancel plans because I suddenly decided that I wanted to go to a movie at 2pm.

Edited for spelling and to add: Wait, if we're not talking about the job-hunt situation, why are we talking about finding last-minute child care?

Sometimes I wish we had more privacy in our back yard...we are the yard that all the neighborhood kids play in, despite the fact that they have their own yards.
