Did anyone actually see this? I'm wondering if it's as racy as I've heard (i.e. promoting group sex, skipping school to do threesomes) Usually I'm pretty opened minded about this stuff, but when it's being marketed to young teenagers . . . well, a line needs to be drawn somewhere.

And whatever happened to advertising CLOTHES??? It sounds like the kids in the catalog weren't even wearing any! :) God, I'm getting old . . .

They are marketing a "lifestyle" so to speak. The cool, hip kids, clothes are incidental.

I haven't seen the actual mag, but if I am to go by what they showed on the news, it is pretty, er, well...racy.

Did you know that their sales have actually dropped since using this particular marketing ploy?

No, I didn't know their sales dropped. That actually surprises me b/c I would think that many teens would buy into the whole "sexy" image they were trying to sell. I'm glad they didn't.

My ds1 worked at A&F for a couple of years and i learned about the mags that way. by then he was 18(or older, i cant remember) and it wasnt such a big deal to me. at that point though, the boy had taken us down the road, so to speak, and nothing really shocked us anymore. :-(

They "interviewed" (read, asked mall rats) what they thought about the ads and if they purchased from the store.

Do you know that they are also being sued for discrimination?

I would not doubt it. my son is very good looking, and i swear thats how he gets his foot in the door everywhere. he is a fine dining server, who is required to wear tux pants and vest with a tie. he actually only works parties and banquets, and meets some famous people, but yes im sure his looks have a lot to do with him getting hired.

as far as the clothes are concerned at A&F, im not impressed either, AND get this, the employees are required to buy clothes from the latest shipments to wear when they work. yes they get a discount, so it brings it down to what i would think would be regular price anyway. yup, its all about how young and pretty one is!

the kids dont dress any worst today, than we did in the 70s. as a matter of fact, i was sitting out on the porch with my neighbor when our daughters were in jr high. here comes her daughter with skin tight shorts up to her fanny, and a very snug lowcut top. her mom gave her "what for" about it, and we both acted like it was horrible. the dd walked away, and i turned to my neighbor and said, "what did you wear in jr high and high school? she looks just like we did". LOL. even when the "flares" came back in, i couldnt believe it!! those were my favorites anyway, because even if i didnt have an ounce of fat on me(which btw is nothing but a fantasy coming into the world at 9 lbs and no turning back...)my legs are big, so the flares were awesome. my dd dresses now, just like i did when i was 20, so i really dont think things are any worse today than they were 30 years ago.

I am not a huge fan of all their clothes. However, I love their jeans because they fit me so well. Since I have lost so much weight and got so thin I have a very hard time finding jeans that fit me right. I have even resorted to buying jeans from the girls dept at Old Navy and Gap. Abercrombie jeans seem to be cut smaller in the hips, which work well for me.

Bill O'Reilly did a segment on this the other night and showed some of the pictures from the catalog. They of course had to blur the private parts. I was VERY surprised at what they were sending out. There was one picture that was a bunch of naked kids, like an orgy. The pictures were very graphic and sexually explicit. I am wondering if you have to be 18 to get their catalog.
