Advice: The big "talk"

Okay, I need advice on when people started or will start to have the big "talk" with their kids.
My oldest is going to be 9 next week. I have some friends telling me they already had this talk with their children at this age. She just seems so young to me. She still plays house, school and dolls with her little sister. IMO, telling her about sex is going to take some innocence away from her. But, am I sheltering her too much?
She knows about periods and body hair development. She already has little breats "bumps" (as she likes to call "em).
Agghhh..I really thought I had until she was 12 to have this talk like my mother did.
What is everyone's opinion?

Scary stuff, isn't it?
I have to wonder what my mother was thinking, not in how she dressed me, but in how she dressed herself: I think of old Murphy Brown reruns when I see photos of my mother from "those days". I could wear liquid latex over my entire body & it would be less artifical looking than the "huge hair, lots of makeup (don't forget the 4 color eyeshadow look!), huge shoulderpads, gigantic jewlery" combination (nevermind the actual clothes . . . . . )
Whoa! It took me a minute to realize they were actual "youth" styles and all of them are available in my dd's size. She's 6! HOLY MOLEY!!!!!!!!!! (and FWIW I called dd in to see those shoes, she made a strangled sound and begged me never to buy any of them for her)
(the red Kenneth Cole reaction boots look like something from a MaryKate & Ashley Olsen interveiw a couple of months ago in either Glamour or Vogue LMAO)
