Advice: The big "talk"

Okay, I need advice on when people started or will start to have the big "talk" with their kids.

My oldest is going to be 9 next week. I have some friends telling me they already had this talk with their children at this age. She just seems so young to me. She still plays house, school and dolls with her little sister. IMO, telling her about sex is going to take some innocence away from her. But, am I sheltering her too much?

She knows about periods and body hair development. She already has little breats "bumps" (as she likes to call "em).

Agghhh..I really thought I had until she was 12 to have this talk like my mother did.

What is everyone's opinion?

Let it go!!! She can have the opinion that a 9-10 year old shouldn't use tampons. It is not your place to correct her.

They are banned almost everywhere around here. School absolutely forbids them.

If you would wear that dress to a party here, you would be considered extremely inappropriate.

I agree that shoes can contribute to a bimbo look. I do not think that all heels fall into this category. I also think it is a rare pair of shoes (although I think you found it in those red boots) that can make a pre-teen look like a bimbo without accompanying bimboesque clothing.

Well, if you look at the poll I started, you'll see that you are using a different definition of flats than the other people on this board. Again, most people do not consider shoes with 1 1/2" heels to be flat shoes.

So you are saying that because my daughter has one pair of boots that have a 2" heel that she maybe wears once a month, she is bimbo and I as her parent have helped her be an "adult wanna-be"? Even though she wears tennis shoes almost every single other day? Wearing those boots one day a month - to church no less - makes her a bimbo? thanks.

Well, it was a hopefull suggestion so you wouldn't have to buy 2 dresses.

While I might give you the red patent boots, the others are not that bad. My DD has shoes very similar to the first ones, her best friend wore the black ones in a wedding she was standing up in, and the mocassins?? those are "bimbo" potential?? not quite.

How about posting a picture of shoes that you feel would be appropriate for your 14 yo?

This post reminds me of something I saw about a week ago:

40something female wearing fishnet stockings.

With open-toed heels.

In February.

In Michigan.

At a funeral.

Everybody deals with grief in their own way, I suppose; I'm just glad my personal way of dealing has nothing to do with fishnet stockings.
