Advice: The big "talk"

Okay, I need advice on when people started or will start to have the big "talk" with their kids.
My oldest is going to be 9 next week. I have some friends telling me they already had this talk with their children at this age. She just seems so young to me. She still plays house, school and dolls with her little sister. IMO, telling her about sex is going to take some innocence away from her. But, am I sheltering her too much?
She knows about periods and body hair development. She already has little breats "bumps" (as she likes to call "em).
Agghhh..I really thought I had until she was 12 to have this talk like my mother did.
What is everyone's opinion?

Lol, that reminds me-during our seasonal business this summer one of the *kids* who works for me (he was 22 or so) was looking through my cds for some music to play. He was FLABBERGASTED that I had a Black Flag cd, that someone *my age* listened to punk. I was like "What era do you think punk comes from? Not yours!"

I think it very well might. A girl of 12 who is hooked on makeup might very well become a woman of 30, 40 or 50 who is a fashion victim and a surgical frequent flyer. Better to let her wear her lipstick on Saturday nights only and try to get her into a more balanced frame of mind wrt her appearance and its importance in the grand scheme of things, imo.
I am in the habit of inspecting my face everyday.
