Is this an age related thing?

(Totally OT, not SAH/WOH related, so feel free to not respond)
I went out with 5 other women to dinner last night.

Bull. Maybe for some. But not for all (shots or people). A shot of butter nipples is defintely for the taste. I drink tequila straight for the taste.
<< how many people do you know drink shots for any reason other than getting drunk?>>
Many. And seriously, how is taking a shot of tequila any different than drinking two fingers of straight scotch?
<< and getting drunk is not classy. >>
On that I agree. A large portion of alcoholics don't do shots you know. They drink scotch. Or wine. I've seen as many, if not more, supposedly classy people drunk on supposedly classy drinks as I have on beer and "shots."

Oh bull. I've had many a "shot" of tequila or schnapps or ouzo that wasn't done in a slam your head back and bang the glass down on the table action. If someone can't drink a simple drink of tequila or ouzo in a classy manner, it has nothing to do with the method (shot), but to do with the type of person.

Who's talking about a carbomb? Is that the only kind of shot? I don't think so.

Well then, don't do one if you don't want to.
It's that attitude exactly that is snobby. If someone likes the taste, who the hell cares if it isn't up to Trump's par?

Who drinks wine with the intent to look classy? Not me. Personally, I drink for MYSELF. I drink because I enjoy the flavor. I don't drink to please some snobby waiter or the snobby, rich-ass patrons of some "classy" restaurant.

No, not really. I do not understand the looking down on people for their drink order. What if the whole table ordered water? Would that be seen as without class or cheap? Maybe they are mormon.
Anyway. I guess I am part of the group of people who just prefer to eat out somewhere comfortable, and consider the ritzy snooty places as unimportant. Personally I would not want to be near people who get that snobby and judgemental, so I would not eat in a place like that. My loss? Maybe, oh well. I will live.
"Who drinks wine with the intent to look classy?"
My thoughts exactly. If someone drinks it to 'look classy', then that sounds like a self esteem thing. I drink red wine because I can't stand the taste of most white. I used to drink White Zinfandel because i liked the taste.
But I live in a smaller-ish sized town. I suppose if I lived in the city there would be more people who consider themselves higher class. Reminds me of when DH and I went to see a hockey game (before the kiddies) which involves a 6 hr car ride and a hotel. We went out for dinner. We wore jeans and nice tops, and simple windbreaker type jackets. In the restaurant almost everyone was wearing leather jackets. We felt like country bumpkins, almost lower class... or just out of place. I think there are just more people in the city concerned about social appearance, than those who live in reality. He he he. Just joking. I just prefer to wear what I like than be too caught up in what others may think of what I wear. The day I am more concerned of others opinions about my wardrobe, take me out back and whack me over the head with a stick!

You know, thinking of this more, you know what it reminds me of? High School. LOL
Think about it, where else are people more judgmental? If you do not have the right clothes, the right brands, if you do/don't smoke, etc, do other people... other children... look down on you? Where else can people sometimes be that judgmental or petty or cruel? The smallest thing could toss you out of the 'cool social circle' and into being shunned? If your hair isn't quite right or you eat some strange food, or you prefer a type of movie.
Think about it. It's off topic, but that is how high school is. Have you ever encountered anything in your lifetime like that, with as much bullying (as some schools have anyway).
Personally, I think I would prefer to avoid socializing with people that childish.
If you don't know the answer, maybe you should have just said so.
to the original question: White Zin is more a dessert wine than a dinner wine, i.e., it's a sweet wine and not that dry. Dinner wines tend to be more dry and less sweet.
But it's a lot more fun for the elitists to make it an issue of moral character rather than simply explaining the differences between dinner and dessert wines. And wannabe foodies who don't know any better have taken up the morality play with a vengeance.
