(Totally OT, not SAH/WOH related, so feel free to not respond)

I went out with 5 other women to dinner last night.

>>Depends on what that "certain manner" is. If that "certain manner" means you can't have a glass of white zinfandel, then yeah, it's rather insulting. <<

the high end resteraunts we've been discussing don't typically serve white zin anyway - when i was asked why i explained why. i never said they would refuse serving it if they had it. i did say that the servers would make a judgment about it if it was ordered however (you can order something in hopes of the resteraunt carrying it - even when its not on the menu...which would just be another point against the customer).

>>Those place often want wayyyy more than basic table etiquette. Or at least hte places I'm speaking of.<<

i guess that depends on what you consider to be proper table etiquette. or, for that matter, proper manners and social skills when out in a five star resteruant, or any other place, not a greasy spoon. things like using the proper forks for the proper course - knowing how to order wine, and how to act upon the presentation of said wine, knowing not to gobble up the sorbet or mint between courses (thats for nibbling), knowing when to order the dessert souffle (or just understanding that you must order prior to the end of dinner), knowing what drinks are appropriate for which food/courses, etc...

and hopefully without choking on the bean.

it's not served that way here, or in any bar/resteaunt i've worked in.

if beans are added, the drink is a drink in a snifter.

no kidding huh? the sticker shock here is big for tourists. $6 per glass of wine - $10 for a martini or similar drink. yikes! although the price of beer here hasn't gone too high. $3-$4 a pint...not too bad i'd say ;)

That reminds me of years ago when I went to Memphis, my brother took me to a micro brew and I ordered a Bud Light!

I'll chalk it up to very limited experience again.

I think it moves from *different exeperience* to *limited experience* when one poster implies that another poster may have been too drunk or it was too long ago to remember the drink she had, simply because the first poster has never heard of that drink before.

If a big group of ppl insist on having slit checks when it is not available, they are rude, they can become extremely unruly with insistance and it is unreasonable.

No one has claimed a waitress cannot handle split checks, the point is it is unecessary stress on the entire staff when no one can get to the computer to put in orders, add ons, prints, whatever. It puts the entire system behind not only the computer. Plus there are many other customers who need to be waited on.
