With all these talk about going from homes to apartments, I wondered how many people think:

1. Going from a home to an apartment is moving "down" in life. (I am not speaking of after the kids grow up and you sell your home to OWN an apartment/condo/townhouse, but a family that owns a home and then sells it to rent an apt.)

2. What are the advantages when you own something and have equity and then go to giving someone else your money to pay THEIR bills?

3. How bad would it have to be living in your home to make the decision to do this?

4. What advantages and/or disadvantages are there to living in an apartment vs living in

Have you been reciprocating and having playdates in your home for your DD's friends?

Look if I wann go gab with some parents then a hellish two hours at the space center arcade really isn't my idea of the time to get all meaningful and friendly.

here's a great example just to prove to you that Yes I actually do TALK to other people. There's a new girl in Liza's class. At halloween her mom invited me and LIza over for pizza before trick or treating in theiir neighborhood (which was at a different day and time than when our neighborhood does). We went and enjoyed pizza and goodies. I tok the girls around while the other mom stayed home to give out candy. After we returned I sat and visited with the other mom and got to know her and yes I enjoy her company. but that's how I'd rather make my friends -- not year after year sitting crammed in some booth at Chuck E Cheese while our kids are stuck up in one of those climbing tubes.

But what if you knew that woman was going year after year to the same parties and you knew you would enjoy speaking to her, would you go then?

you betcha -- I take one of her best friends almost every weekend in the sumer to come swimming with Liza at our condo pool I also routinely pick up this girl with Liza on early release days since I have some flexibility her mom and dad don't -- her parents are divorced and the girl has a similar arrangment Liza does. her dad lives across the street from me and her mom near my ex. the Sunday before Christmas I had to work at the bookstore and Liza spent the day with this girl and her mom -- which she was happy to do as I had picked them up at the end of Christmas break and taken them for the day.

I also do this for some of Liza's other friends but in the summer this one little girl is with us at least once a week and often for sleep overs.

no. I'd make it a point to get together with her in a setting that was more conducive to chatting.

it's REALLY not that big a deal.

Look I leave my cell phone number and I'm fine. At Liza's party one year one of her friends had a bloody nose. at that point she was my responsibility not her moms (who was not there as I had indicated parents were welcome to drop their kids off) We took care of the little girl easily , all was well and the party went on.

again. NO. Big. Deal.

Not all parties are like CEC though and many are very easy to have conversations with others as you are not chasing around you child. We see the same people year after year after year and I never have a problem finding a parent to talk to or just doing things with my child.
