With all these talk about going from homes to apartments, I wondered how many people think:

1. Going from a home to an apartment is moving "down" in life. (I am not speaking of after the kids grow up and you sell your home to OWN an apartment/condo/townhouse, but a family that owns a home and then sells it to rent an apt.)

2. What are the advantages when you own something and have equity and then go to giving someone else your money to pay THEIR bills?

3. How bad would it have to be living in your home to make the decision to do this?

4. What advantages and/or disadvantages are there to living in an apartment vs living in

No, I dont think it is at all. I enjoyed the fact that I didnt have to shovel my driveway, water the lawn, or pay for any repairs when I rented. And some apartments

And to have just a 2-hour block of relaxing, nearly-uninterrupted time at someone's house.

I did say that we don't do "big" birthday parties until the 5th birthday, and no a five year old does not NEED a big birthday party. We actually enjoy entertaining (we threw four separate parties during the month of December, including a gingerbread-house decorating party that involved thirteen children between the ages of 18 months and fifteen years and their families) just because we like to.

I think that you are making a very wise choice. I dont understand how anyone could comment on your living arrangements. Just cause one owns a house doesnt mean one is a financial wizard or even a mature person.

I agree about Chuck E. Cheese. We went to one of those places when my older one was about 18 months old and I said "never again." And I meant it. As far as I know, neither of my kids has been inside one of those places since.

We took Liza when she was about three -- the mouse came out and she freaked out and we've never been back since.

Yes. We. Did.

Yep, sounds just like us. We cant live more then 5 mins from a fully fuctional ER. Which makes our living choices more limited them most.

My husband never went to our kids' birthday parties. He finds children in large groups to be overwhelming. He was happier not being there.
