Back to school already??

August 1st means kids are getting ready to go back! Does your child feel anxiety? (maybe you feel more anxiety than they do? Are they looking forward to making new friends? What do you do (have you done) if they've had trouble making friends? What do you do when you don't like their friends?

Personal note: my kids never showed anxiety about going back but I do remember all too clearly that if they had friends that I didn't particularly care for, if I said it out loud, they'd like them even more.

Looking forward to your comments!

Unlike when I home schooled the girls, I don't have to figure out the curriculum.

I don't remember quoting Terry Pratchet. But it's not surprising as I'm reading him right now.

In your sig line you have a quote from him. you may have the 'view signatures' option shut off.

My kids went back today. They're in 6th and 9th grade, and our district runs an "academy" (kind of a prep program for MS and HS) that started today. Real school starts in two weeks. Although DD1 is starting HS, she's already been there for 3 years (it's 6-12), so no real anxieties about HS or friends. DD2 doesn't seem stressed about starting MS. One of her best friends is going to the same school, and she knows half a dozen other kids more casually, so I think she'll be fine. She's generally good at making friends.

Does your child feel anxiety? -- Dd, none whatsoever.

School starts here on September 6th. They don't get out until the end of June.

That's the same as when my kids were in school, and actually back to when I was in school as well.

BTW, welcome to the board, it's always great to have new people join the discussions here. Please jump in anywhere or start a new discussion either on the SAH vs Work topic or basically everything else under OT!

Take care and thanks for joining :)
