Back to Work Fluff (Bord can defer this if she wants :D )

Since this is the start of a work week after I had a week off, I thought I'd start off with some fluff while the laundry does itself ;)

1.  And speaking of laundry, do you do it the last day or two of vacation (to avoid doing it when you get home), or do you wait til you're home?  For me, I prefer to wait.  I understand the whole, Oh, let's avoid this task when we get home and are tired!!! but seriously, that means giving up a day of vacation to get it done, and in an environment where all my stuff isn't handy.  I'd rather enjoy the vacation and do it when I get home. How about you?

2.  Groceries.  Day you get home?  Day after?  For me, I usually do this the day I get home, but embarrassing as it is to admit, the fridge needed cleaning out first and I didn't do that before I left.  I was only gone 3 days, so it wasn't THAT bad, but I *do* usually like to have the entire house clean and ready for me to be back, unpack, toss a load of laundry in the washer and then hit up the grocery store/gas up the car.

3,  Bed linens.  Change them last thing before you leave?  Change them when you get home? Never thought about it?  I changed them this morning.  I change them weekly and I left on Thursday got home on Saturday and Monday is the day I do that anyway, so it was within cycle.  If I were going to be gone a couple weeks, I'd have likely changed them before I left--except the duvet cover--I'd leave that since the cats sleep on the bed and if someone pukes while I'm gone, they'd puke on a dirty cover, not a fresh one.  (And I have two duvets--a spare in case someone barfs, I can hit up the laundromat and hang it up to dry on the clothesline and still have a clean duvet on the bed)

1.  And speaking of laundry, do you do it the last day or two of vacation (to avoid doing it when you get home), or do you wait til you're home?  I do it when I get home. But my Dad always hits the laundrymat during vacations so he doesn't come home w/a pile of laundry. No thanks.

2.  Groceries.  Day you get home?  Day after?  Depends on if there is anything to eat in the house...

3,  Bed linens.  Change them last thing before you leave?  Change them when you get home? Never thought about it? Before we leave so I come home to a nice fresh bed. :)

On Wednesdays we wear pink.

1.  And speaking of laundry, do you do it the last day or two of vacation (to avoid doing it when you get home), or do you wait til you're home?  The only time I do my laundry when I am on vacation is if I am staying with someone and they have a washer/dryer. Otherwise, I might send something out that I need again but do the laundry the day we come back.

2.  Groceries.  Day you get home?  Day after?  It depends on the time we get home, how tired we are and how much food is in the house.

3,  Bed linens.  Change them last thing before you leave?  Change them when you get home? Never thought about it?  Never thought about it.

1. Even though more hotels have laundry facilities now we have never done ours at a hotel.  We rented a house last summer and did it there before we left.  Figured we might as well use their water and electricity and since it was in house it was not any hassle expectially for me since DH and DD3 are the ones who actually did it.

2.  Depends on many variable, what time we get home,  what day of the week, how much groceries are needed.   I absolutly avoid the grocery stores on Sunday afternoon so if we get home on a Sunday I will hold off until Monday and if need be pick up necessities from a convience store.

3. Hadn't really thought  about it but I usually try to clean house before I leave on vacation so if they were in need of cleaning then I would probably clean then before I left if not then when needed when I get back.

1.  And speaking of laundry, do you do it the last day or two of vacation (to avoid doing it when you get home), or do you wait til you're home?  At home.  I like to wash everything that has been in my suitcase whether I've worn it or not when I get home.  Although last year when we were at a beach house with a washer/dryer, I did end up doing some of the laundry before I left.

2.  Groceries.  Day you get home?  Day after?  Usually we get home late, so we go the day after.

3,  Bed linens.  Change them last thing before you leave?  Change them when you get home? Never thought about it?  Usually we leave fairly early in the morning, so I don't have time to change them before we leave. If I've changed them the weekend before we leave (very likely), I usually just leave them until the next weekend.

1.  And speaking of laundry, do you do it the last day or two of vacation (to avoid doing it when you get home), or do you wait til you're home?   As soon as we get into the hotel room, I start in on the whites.  Just joking!  No, I wait til we get home.  I refuse to use anyone else's washing machines but my own.  I've seen things.  Am I a washing machine snob?  So be it.  I can live with that.

2.  Groceries.  Day you get home?  Day after?   Like emptynester, if it's a busy shopping time like a Sat or Sun afternoon, I'd wait for an early weekday.

3,  Bed linens.  Change them last thing before you leave?  Change them when you get home? Never thought about it?   (I'm doing bed linens now as we speak.)  Er, I just keep to my "schedule" ~ try to do 2 beds every week.

Oh, Grapthars, about your refrigerator.  It's more efficient to leave things in the fridge than to come home to an empty fridge.  Things hold the cool.  An empty fridge has to work harder to keep cold.  This is even more of a savings when you have a full freezer ~ holds the cold, unlike an empty freezer which takes more energy.  So, you don't want things rotting, but it's better never to have it empty.

1.  Laundry - If we are renting a house/condo/apartment for the week, they normally have washer/dryers in there so we tend to pack less and wash throughout the week and do the majority of the dirty laundry before leaving. If we are in a hotel, I normally don't do laundry unless I have to wash uniforms for the boys.

2.  Groceries - Depends if there is food at home when we get home, normally we do pizza on our first night home if we have been away for a week.  Weekends, there is usally something easy I can fix for dinner.

3.  Linens - They are changed weekly so vacation doesn't really factor into changing those and dh does it most of the time.

When we travel as a family its usually through my wife's timeshare trades so we always stay in condo like places with washer dryers- I love this- I pack 1/2 as much as I normally would, pack those all in one laundry/dryer sheets in a zip loc bag and do mini loads of laundry thru the week.  On vaction who cares if we wear the same thing a few times as long as its clean?

Groceries I have to admit we're kind of a "get home early, get the groceries restocked and then crash" kind of a family.

I will often strip the beds before we go away and leave them linen-free for the duration -- this is mostly b/c the cats get lonely for us when we're gone and they all sleep on our bed or the girls bed and we come home to fur covered comforters... so I try to minimize the damage.. ;-)

We almost always rent a condo, so I do laundry in the evenings as the week progresses.  If it's a weekend trip, I just do it when we get home.

2. Groceries. Day you get home? Day after?
Don't have a norm, it depends on how long we've been gone, what time of day we return, and if there is any food at home..... there have been times that we've stopped on the way home for some basics, then went out the next day for a full shopping trip.

3, Bed linens. Change them last thing before you leave? Change them when you get home? Never thought about it?
I usually change them just before we go.

1. It really depends. If I am in Greek island, I am not doing laundry. If I am sitting in a hotel in DC, with a good laundry room right down the hall, then I might. 2. We shop ad hoc, so not really an issue. 3. The maid does that now, so it gets done when she is here.

1. I would like to wait until we get home, but DH is absolutely OCD about laundry when we travel. We have enough clothes for a week, we've been on the road four days, and DH Is insisting we do laundry tomorrow morning. We will not bring home laundry. 2. I usually freeze something for the night we get home, and unless I need to run out for milk for morning coffee we get back, I shop when we get home. 3. Wait til we get home to change linens. The cats like to sleep on our bed when we're away. They mess is up anyway, but I think they like it better if it smells like us.
