Target is facing some backlash about their decision to open up on Thanksgiving night in order to compete with other big box stores:

The culprit, imo, isn't Target. It's consumerism.

I've worked many a holiday. It, imo, really isn't that big of a deal. Does it suck at the time? Yep. Is it worthy of hubbub and petitions and so forth? Nope.

Or we would have borrowed some sage from the neighbors, back in the day.

Not necessarily in the military world when you move every couple of years.

What about all the people who work holidays to make our lives easier, when it isn't commercially driven? For example, I know a lot of people who eat out on Thanksgiving. Restaurants get booked up weeks in advance. I'm sure those meals don't cook themselves. I know Thanksgiving at Churchhill Downs is one of their biggest race days of the Fall Meet. What about that airlines, airport workers, hotel workers, etc for all those people traveling to see family on Thanksgiving?

There are a lot of people who work on Thanksgiving in "non-essential" jobs that are not driven by consumerism. Should people not travel on holidays either so Hotels could close and pilots and TSA employees can stay home? Are those people petitioning to not have to work?

What about the football players and the NFL officials, the sports announcers, and TV news people? Should we prohibit football on Thanksgiving?

If you think about it, there are millions of people who work on Thanksgiving, not just fire, police and nurses. So why is this guy complaining again? He's not even working Thanksgiving. He's working on the Friday after, just really early in the morning.

i always thought it was neat to listen to the traditions some people had with black fridays, they'd meet for coffee then shop all morning, or shop then go out to breakfast. maybe this midnight hour will ignite a whole new one, Lol.
