Target is facing some backlash about their decision to open up on Thanksgiving night in order to compete with other big box stores:

How you feel about the holidays is personal to you, though. Thanksgiving is a family day to me, and Christmas is a religious holiday to me, so I would not be okay with working on Christmas.

I wouldn't have any issue with any of those things not being available on Thanksgiving on Christmas days so that employees could be home with their families. People can travel the day before or the day after the holiday. I can't get too worried about professional athletes who make millions having to play football on Thanksgiving day.

Yes, I think it's time for consumers to stop this nonsense. The Target employees protest is part of that. Although you may not be concerned about employees having to work on Thanksgiving, there are consumers who are. I don't shop at businesses that I don't think treat their employees well. And I've seen local stories about people who shop Black Friday who don't like it either.

Of course. But employers aren't responsible for protecting one's fee-fees.

IYO. It's not always avoidable, or preferable. I'll be traveling on Christmas Eve this year. Not happy about it, but it's the best option available to me.

Isn't Christmas Eve the day before the holiday?

Not for me. My immediate family has traditionally done our Christmas on Christmas Eve. It extends into Christmas Day too now, but Christmas Eve is an important day for me.
