I have an almost 15 y/o german shep/lab mix who is still plugging along, but I did watch the movie. I'd gotten dh the book for Christmas a couple of years ago and he was LOL throughout the book that I knew it must be good. I knew the dog was going to die but I watched it anyway. I sobbed at the end, but really, the story was so good that I'm glad I watched it. I'm going to sob when it's my dog's time to go and this movie helped me to reflect on the positive side of his life with us, knowing that some day, we will have to say goodbye, but realizing that all those years we've had with him are worth the pain we will feel when he's gone. When I watched the movie, I actually assumed my dog only had about a year left, but he's still going strong, but moves a lot slower!

My neighbor just recently put down his 15 y/o golden. My lab/german shep mix will be 15 this summer. He's been a very healthy dog and is still going strong. He moves a lot more slowly but you would never know he's that old! When people find out how old he is, they are surprised b/c he still gets around very well and doesn't "act" old, other than laying around a lot more and taking his time on the stairs.

Folks on a non-iVillage board have said the same thing. It was a good movie, but VERY VERY hard to watch.
