Branson, Missouri?

Is anyone familiar with Branson? DH wants to take the kids up there for a week before school starts, and I haven't been since I was about DDs age. DH hasn't been since 91, and he didn't plan the trip, so he doesn't remember anything about it.

I would like to find a nice, fun, kid-friendly resort. Someplace where we can relax and have fun THERE, on the days we aren't going to be out at amusement parks.

Also, we are planning on going to Silver Dollar City, White Water (would you believe I have NEVER even been to the WW in Oklahoma?), and Celebration City. Any thoughts on these places? I've been to SDC a few times, but not since I was DDs age, so I'm sure it has changed a lot since then. We are also planning on going on the dinner showboat one evening. Anything else you would suggest we do while there? Any shows we should NOT miss? We aren't really into country music, but I don't know what other shows they have.

Thanks in advance!!! :)

Not an expert on Branson by any means, but I have been there twice in the last 3 years (once in Nov. 2000 and last summer). My family always books our reservations, so I can't tell you much about hotels/resorts/condos. . .I'd imagine the Chamber of Commerce or Visitor's Bureau of Branson could help there.

The last time we went to Branson we got a 2 day pass. . .and it was MORE than worth the $$ as it was only a bit over the one day price. We got those passes on-line at the SDC web site.

I'd also recommend the outlet mall there. . .they had good shopping when we were there in 2000.

Have fun. . .I'm planning a trip to see my in-laws over the Thanksgiving Holiday, but that's the only traveling I'm ready to do on my own with the kiddos. . .

I had already checked out the SDC site, and they have a 4-day pass for those 3 parks...pretty good deal too! So, I think that is what we are going to do, but I'm going to check to see what the military rates are first. When DH and I were in San Antonio this month we went to Sea World, and decided not to deal with the hassle of going on base to get discount tickets. So, when we got there, DH went to pay with his debit card, and gave his military ID as proof of who he was. Guess what? We got in FREE!!! It is a one-time thing they are doing for members (and veterans) of the armed forces. It was REALLY nice as it is now $40 per adult to get in there. Then we got 10% off all food, drinks and gift shop items all day! And while DH is now out of the military, my ID is still not expired (go figure), so we will use it for discounts and stuff while we can.

But I doubt SDC has great military rates as it isn't a huge military town like San Antonio is...at least I don't think it is. Who knows. ;)

I didn't know there was an outlet mall! That is exciting, as the kids still need some shoes for school!

I did find one resort that has condos available, and they are right on lake Tablerock (that's the right name, right?), and next to a Marina where we can rent jet skis, paddle boats, boats, etc. I just haven't reserved it yet...will probably do that Thursday after checking out some other options....really wish I had a reccomendation from someone though, those always work out better!

Should be fun, though!!!!

Stay by the lakes, not on the Strip. The strip is way too cheesy, and the traffic is just horrendous, LOTS of elderly drivers in RV's. We don't go down too often, but when we do, we stay well away from the shows; they are expensive, and all those red-white-and-blue sequins are just not our style.

This group of resorts comes highly recommended by several people we know, though I haven't stayed there myself; we have friends who loan us a condo. (http://indianpoint.com/default.asp)

Branson? My idea of the gates of hell. Lots of country singers you thought died a long time ago, lots of fat people standing in line at all you can eat buffets full of mediocre food, and everything is overpriced. It's too doggone hot for kids at theme parks right no too, But other than that, I like it a lot.

ROFL...a little pessimistic? Personally, I'm pretty excited. I haven't been up there since I was my DDs age. We got a cabin at Table Rock lake, where we are going to spend Wed and Thurs on the lake (before all the idiots get there on Friday for Labor Day weekend), then spend Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon day at the amusement parks/shows.

We picked two shows that I know the kids will LOVE, without all the sequined country singers...lol.

As far as the weather...we will see how it goes. What will probably happen is that we will go in the AM, leaving around noon or 1pm, then go back around 5 or 6pm, depending on the weather and which park it is. That's why we are getting a 4 day pass to the 3 parks.

Oh, and the food? our cabin has a full kitchen...we will mostly be cooking our own. I won't even touch the "fat people" remark.

I'm from Missouri, and supposedly we lead the nation in the percentage of obese people in the population. It's true. We live a very unhealthy lifestyle overall here. About half the restaurants around here are "all you can eat fried stuff" and there are *NO* salad houses/skinny havens, etc.

Another Missourian here...agree...wouldn't go to Branson if you paid me....but then again, my parents are there this weekend, and my brother last month.

I think I am adopted. LOL :)
