People that wake up everyday to sunshine regardless of the actual weather, whose lives look peachy perfect b/c of their demeanor, whose energies and smiles motivate you or make you want to strangle them...

Or do you?

You never answered in the thread about upgrades in your home.

That isn't even logical. At all.

I have mentioned it in that thread but I guess I will mention it again:

Roofing, Siding, Windows, Gutters, Leaders, Pavers, Driveway with Pavers, Stairs for basement, Gutted Kitchen (everything new from floor to ceiling, added window in the dining area), AC's (3 as one just died after almost 15 years), new washer and dryer (2 each), new flooring in bathroom, wall to wall carpeting in 2 bedrooms, ripped them up and now all hardwood, wall to wall carpeting in living room and hallway. This is besides regular painting and decorating for the last 17 years we have owned our home).

It was a joke Jams.  If you want others to laugh along with the rude comments because they have an lol behind them, your comments might want to demonstrate a sense of humor with others that are clearly tongue in cheek.

I'm curious, what are the things you were talkinga about earlier?  For reference, here is your comment that I'm talking about.

<<o you are comparing 30-40 years. At 70 years old, most prople ARE able to go on 3 week vacations so not sure why that is supposed to impress me or anyone else. I am glad that  I am not waiting another 30 years to do things And might not be in 100% shape to do them, like you dh whom you have said cant drive at night as he is legally blind, correct? You never know what will happen in life and I personally do not see the need to live so tightly for so many years. >>

Where did I say that is wrong? How many times have I said I spend AND save money and think THAT is the best balance? Ummm...many.

Ffaakkffkliowweerrss, any kind of either delayed gratification or profession of not wanting the latest and greatest in the first place seems to annoy you.  That is the way you come across to readers.

The best balance,IMO, was to have realistic financial goals, a workable budget, and a long term plan. Because I was peripatetic student in my young adulthood, I had to play catchup in my 30s to build emergency and retirement funds once I started 3rd career. Because that career paid so much better than my other ones, I was able to catch up rather quickly. I suppose I could have spent a lot more when my salary doubled, but I didn't feel the need.

So yeah, we have the granite, flat screen and ipads, but they came well after the retirement and college funds were fully funded, and we lived with laminate, a 15yo TV, and flip phones for more than a few years. The kids got their first iPhones this past summer, they lived without smartphones, the horror!

In your posts to bord, you have said numerous times that living a modest life and then spending more in retirement is not what you want to do, otherwise all of your posts to bord would be totally silly.  You even said...

<< I am glad that  I am not waiting another 30 years to do things And might not be in 100% shape to do them, like you dh whom you have said cant drive at night as he is legally blind, correct? But given that you can't exen define those "things", I'm not surprised your back tracking.  Again.

What does delayed gratification look like to you?

Delayed gratification means putting needs before wants, even if the want seems more immediate than the need. When you are twenty it seems like you have "plenty of time" to save for a house or retirement or whatever, and you "need" a car, a cool phone, money to go out with friends, and trendy clothes." Delayed gratification at that age might mean putting aside some money for savings rather than going to Starbucks every morning or joining an expensive gym. At a later age, it might mean buying secondhand rather than new, waiting to buy something until you have the $$$ rather than using credit, or waiting until the movie comes out on Netflix rather than going to the theatre every time so you can build up savings, going to Disney every three years instead of every year. Things like that.

Yea, I get that you both spend - and - save and there's nothing wrong with that. What amuses me are the people that talk from both sides of their mouth, How frugal and modest they claim their lives are then how how much they spend just because, Of course it does depend on what thread we're in but at least you're consistent morty! ;-)

I think delaying gratification is a virtue and I don't think it necessarily has to do with how much money you dn't have either.
