People that wake up everyday to sunshine regardless of the actual weather, whose lives look peachy perfect b/c of their demeanor, whose energies and smiles motivate you or make you want to strangle them...

Or do you?

You've made it sound like you have a lot of money over the years savcal, Didn't you even call your neighborhood an upper middle class one once? Do you even know what one is... Thanks.

Ooooh, I'm scared ... of facing the fact that some people have a lot of money!  Oh man, how I denied myself that knowledge for so many years!

Serious? If you can't have a mature debate than I will have to wish you a good night.

We were frugal. Do you think frugal means you cannot "do things?" We are still frugal in many ways. "Frugal" is not a dirty word.

The kids, DH and I made brownie sundaes for dessert.  We should have settled for sliced apples, oh the shame!  Lol.  But I agree, diets don't work.

Yum and no diets do not work. Making it a lifestyle and moderation is the only thing that will work for the long run.

"Serious? If you can't have a mature debate than I will have to wish you a good night." Did you think it was new information that some people make a great deal of money, even when they are young?

What things did you do as I have only heard about these European vacations in the last couple of years? No cable, old cars, no new clothes and shoes for yourself for many years. I am sure I could go on.

I don't think frugal means what you think it means bord. Nor does living modestly or delaying gratification mean you don't have $$. Maybe for some people I suppose, I mean appearances and all that.

I've never professed to having a lot of money.  I don't think I've said my neighborhood is an upper middle class neighborhood. In fact, I think I've often said that I am pretty solidly middle middle class.

You may be thinking of where I lived before this neighborhood - that neighborhood was an upper middle class one, but I lived on a street of houses that were valued significantly below the rest of the neighborhood.   It was actually a pretty darned good place to live - surrounded by bigger, grander homes - kept my property values up.

What the average American has in retirement savings is seriously inadequate?

by any qualitative standardss. Why wouldn't  you judge your situation on what you will need than by what others lack?

It's not like we came home every night after work and ate our crusts of bread and sat in the dark and cold until we reached a certain level of financial security. We just do more things now, because we have less of a need to save.

Yes, we now have a about 2k more a month because we don't have a mortgage anymore.

We get new clothes and shoes as we need or want them, always have. I've been going to Europe on and off, every few years, since 1981. We tend to stay longer and stay in better places now,

I wasn't. I was just commenting of what I have read. So you think people are doing well in this area and the majority are not. I was quite surprised and didn't realize that I was actually over that.

Wow, 2K? Glad I was never saddled with such a high mortgage.

The story hasn't changed, Fall. You just think I should want more clothes than I do. You spent a couple of hours this summer in a tizzy because I wasn't going to buy a new dress for an event until I was sure that I had tickets for that event.
