People that wake up everyday to sunshine regardless of the actual weather, whose lives look peachy perfect b/c of their demeanor, whose energies and smiles motivate you or make you want to strangle them...

Or do you?

Maybe, maybe not. I am sure I am also enjoying myself more though then you did at my age and younger." I doubt that as well. The kinds of things that you enjoy now are not the kinds of things I enjoyed when I was younger. I've seldom had times in my life when I couldn't do the things I enjoyed. Perhaps not on the scale, I would have liked, but we always found a way.

How would you know if you did not do them to be frugal and save? You didn't have the chance to do things because of the money factor.

What are you basing that on?   That's a statement based on total conjecture and  lack of knowledge.

It is a beautiful thing, I'm not so sure changing facts in stories is a beautiful thing...but yea, ymmv of course.

unless other people's situations change - and then you accuse them of lying.

Exactly they could vary from person to person, which is why your comparing to bord is a little well, strange.  If traveling is one of yours, how could you use it to compare to bord given that she has travled since before her kids were born?

I'm not sure our house is worth less than what we paid for it right now. It's certainly not worth a lot more. Our neighbors house, which has one few bedroom and 1.5 fewer bathrooms, and fewer updates than ours, just sold for $270K. It's going to be pretty much a wash if we sell in the next few years, but we don't have any plans to do that. We did OK on real estate transactions earlier in our lives, though. And we've never planned on the house financing our retirement. It's all good.

I said that was ONE of the things I would consider not being able to do when you get older. Her dh can't drive at night. That is something I would consider a physical issue. You need to rely on others to drive for you. Physical activities are another one. Many things can't be started at older ages without doing them when you are younger.

I wouldn't go by the neighbors house as I am sure it is not 100% exactly the same. Haven't you ever researched this?

Past history doesn't change because situation change, past history changes because someone is trying to rewrite their past.

My husband's vision issues are congenital, Fall. Like everyone, he's had some age-related vision deterioration, but he's had the underlying problem since birth. However, he still skis.

Where did I say anything about past histories. I said situations change through the years that is why the stories NOW are not the same as the ones from the past.

But he can't drive at night, correct? THAT would be a physical issue IMO and not something I would want to lose.

Past history only changes because someone is trying to rewrite their past,  Like saying one has money problems in the present then years later says they never had money problems.  That isn't an aspect of lives changing, that's rewriting history.

No, what I am saying, Fall, is that we always found a way to do at least a little bit of what we really wanted to do. We might have liked to go to a Cardinals fame once a month when the kids were little and really like baseball, but we did go at least once a season. Things like that. We weren't going to forego meeting our savings goals to go to more professional sports games.

Yep, I agree with you on that but I never said any of that about my life.

Well given again that she has traveled quite extensively for decades now, including this year...this seems to be quite a silly "thing" for you to compare to bord on.  She's not starting them in old age, she is continuing.  I don't think you thought your point out very well because you really have no basis for this line of logic, lol.

He has never been able to drive at night, a Fall. He's night blind. Even when he was in the army at the age of 22, he was excused from nighttime guard duty.

But you limited yourself. You couldn't find the balance of doing and buying things AND saving.
