Childhood shaping parenthood

I've noticed from a thread above that most people's decision on how they parent or have familes are based on their childhood experiences.

I'll make my answers short.

<1. How many children do you have? Why? Why not? Are you planning on having more? Why? Why not?

I have 1. TTC #2. I want my "family" to have parents and kids. I don't want my dd to be an only child if I can help it. And yes, it probably does have something to do with the fact that I grew up in a loud house with 4 kids.

2. Are you a SAHP/WOHP/WAHP? Why?

WOHP -- why? I like my work. My income contributes a lot to our family. I hope my work status will be positive role model to my dd.

3. Do you have an education past high school? If so, why? If not, why?

yes. I needed an advance degree to go into my field of work.

4. What method(s) of discipline do you use? Why?

I don't know if it has a name. I don't yell or hit.

5. Are you married? Why? Why not?

yes. I love my dh and want to be committed to spending our lives together.

5. If divorced, would you ever get re-married? Why? Why not? n/a

6. Are you the breadwinner by choice or default? If not, is your husband the breadwinner by choice or default? Why?

My dh and I both contribute to the household income, but I make more $ -- it's just the nature of our jobs.

7. If you have children, whenever you need childcare (whether once in a while or on a work week basis) what is your choice? (Daycare, Homecare, Relatives, etc.) Why?

Live-out nanny. Individual attention.

8. Do you plan on paying for or at least helping to pay for your child's college education? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. If I can, I'd like to.

1. How many children do you have? Why? Why not? Are you planning on having more? Why? Why not? ***2. We are debating a third, I'd love to try for a little girl. We base our family size on being able to provide a certain standard of living financially and emotionally and that determines our family size***

2. Are you a SAHP/WOHP/WAHP? Why? ***WAHPT. I do not want to work full time anymore. It would be too demanding in my profession and I could not juggle the demands of my family and my career so I have stepped back. I do not want to totally quit because I enjoy what I do and want to stay involved in the field in the event I ever have to go back to work ft to support my children***

3. Do you have an education past high school? If so, why? If not, why? ***College +. Why, I never wanted to stop learning, I am still learning via continuing professional education. It was never even a thought for me *not* to go to college, it was expected***

4. What method(s) of discipline do you use? Why? ***Timeouts, priveledge revocation, rewards. I have spanked on occasion, but try to avoid it because it doesn't work and it's a short term punishment. I find other punishments last longer and 'teach' my children what they are doing wrong rather than just a WHAP!***

5. Are you married? Why? Why not? ***Yes, why? I found my soul mate and best friend and we want to be with eachother - and as Catholics, we did that through the sacrament of marriage.***

5. If divorced, would you ever get re-married? Why? Why not? ***N/A***

6. Are you the breadwinner by choice or default? If not, is your husband the breadwinner by choice or default? Why? ***Dh is the breadwinner by choice. I could make just as much money as he does if I went back to work FT. But I have the more nurturing/childcaring/sah kind of personality. He thrives off of his career and enjoys it***

7. If you have children, whenever you need childcare (whether once in a while or on a work week basis) what is your choice? (Daycare, Homecare, Relatives, etc.) Why? ***Relatives- they are available. We are a helping out family. I sit their kids when I can, they sit mine. We have my parents who enjoy spending time with the kids. Occasionally, I'll hire a younger neighbor/friend sitter for a quick 2 hours or so when family is not available***

8. Do you plan on paying for or at least helping to pay for your child's college education? If so, why? If not, why not? ***Our children have trust funds in place for that. Dh and I have contributed minimally. I would, however, go back to work ft if they did not have those funds and dh and I needed to totally provide for college. It is very important to us that our children attend college, and that they do so w/o the added stresses of having to work to pay for it and/or start their adult life with tons of student debt***

Isn't that true with all things?

Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color.  Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.
