For your kids do you make sure to spend the same amount of money and get the same amount of gifts?

I really don't pay much attention to the dollar amount being even.

i'm more about making sure the number of gifts is equal than the cost of gifts.

When they were smaller, I made sure they had the same number of gifts to open.

I have always tried spent the same give or take a few bucks and had the same amount of gifts. My budget for x-mas is x amount for each kid. I have one that may notice...he is my challange and is at a vulnerable spot right now...he has what i call "middle child syndrome" he is the second born boy then he has a younger sister...then came little brother... his complains are his older brother gets to do things or gets things first ... for example a cell phone a face book page able to go with friends more freely ...well, yes that is b/c he is older than you that is how life works.

okay here is my dilema...the two older boys have two big ticket items with a few small ...that equal the same amount as the younger kids who have much more gifts they are 12 and 14. Dh says it is not fair...so if i try to buy more to equal same amount of gifts for two older boys as younger

We do that similar gift thing from Santa. Dh and I get the kids something that they want, regardless of what we have gotten the other kids...but Santa always brings similar items...One year he brought everyone pj's (and one kid a robe), another year, he brought suit cases and/or backpacks, and I got a diaper bag, and a different year, he brought special blankets for a couple of kids, and sleeping bags for the others, and a throw blanket (for the couch) for me.

We get our kids three gifts total, two from dh and I, and just one from Santa...for the same reason that you mention, lol. Of course, with all of the other gifts that they receive from people, it's more than enough.

I think at 14, and probably at 12, they understand that their "big ticket" items are more expensive than several cheaper things the smaller kids are opening.
