I was reading about the Kansas City Secret Santa today and thought how much fun that would be. It made me start thinking what I would do if I had 40k to spare. So here are some questions.

1. If you had unlimited amounts of money, what type of Random Acts of Kindness would you do? At Christmas or otherwise.

2.

To each his own. Glad my things get used by people who truly need them not a private company making a profit off of me. Shrug.

They sell the clothes to a private company who in turn makes a profit too. These clothes are not being used (even good, usable ones) for the needy (like most people think).

I definitely understand the space issue. We had a very (very) small galley style kitchen in our apartment in IL. Everything had to serve multiple purposes. Our kitchen now is a decent size, but I'm still running out of storage space.

My mom does that too. On top of the money she sends us to buy what we choose, she will send us something for our home. One year it was a Kitchenaid mixer, the next a Kitchenaid food processor, the next a steam mop. This year she got me a cashmere sweater. My dh doesn't really get the extra gift this year though-lol!!

Nah, I do both, give my children a nice Christmas and donate.

We are fortunate and blessed to be able to do both and have been able to do so for many years :)

I mean the kid might have only been 3, but my three year old last year would never had said anything like that. And if she had, I certainly wouldn't have laughed or published a video on Youtube. We would have had a very serious discussion about being thankful for the things we receive and accepting gifts graciously.

Thing is .. if the kid didn't *expect* those things, or that particular thing, or a certain amoutn of things to begin with, would they even KNOW that they'd given something up to help out others? Can't the parent approach it as "Hey, we're helping those less fortunate." without some acknowledgement that their own chldren are getting less?

I did the angel tree this year and bought a bunch of stuff for a child ... and even if that meant I spent $40 less on my own kids, my kids won't know I spent less on them. They just know I gave to someone else.
