I was reading about the Kansas City Secret Santa today and thought how much fun that would be. It made me start thinking what I would do if I had 40k to spare. So here are some questions.

1. If you had unlimited amounts of money, what type of Random Acts of Kindness would you do? At Christmas or otherwise.

2.

Not necessarily to you - but it seems like a good place to put it... I'm feeling sort of guilty , I'd never heard of such bins where clothes didn't need to be in good condition, or that some organizations made un-wearable clothes into rags. I recently threw away several old clothing items; a couple shirts, and some old shorts that I had used for painting when we first bought our house. They were definitely unwearable, so I thought I was doing Goodwill (where I usually donate) a favor by "weeding out" the un-wearable stuff. Now I know - I should've just donated them! Boohoo! :(

Common sense would tell you that it doesn't matter if they sell the clothes for rags or give the clothes to a store to sell/give to charity, either way the donation is going to charity. Right?

So you think these charities don't sell anything out of season or hold it until the season comes along? Probably in a month or 2 they will have out the spring clothes in the middle of the winter. Same thing, IMO.

Well my kids gifts DO get determined by our xmas budget. That does not mean we don't donate also. We always donate but it is just not included in my weekly budget.

They don't use EVERYTHING for rags though and many things get thrown out so you were probably ok by throwing it out yourself.

I don't buy good clothes so that they can be turned into rags. I would like them to go to someone who truly needs them.

I have as well, I guess I'm not seeing what the issue is, the money that either charities like Goodwill receives is still being used for charity. I really don't care if they use the clothes/goods as I donate them, give them away, sell them or whatever....it really doesn't matter logically, all the money that they receive for selling is used within the charitable organization.
