I was reading about the Kansas City Secret Santa today and thought how much fun that would be. It made me start thinking what I would do if I had 40k to spare. So here are some questions.

1. If you had unlimited amounts of money, what type of Random Acts of Kindness would you do? At Christmas or otherwise.

2.

I care that good, used clothes are made into rags to be sold to janitorial businesses, etc.

I was thinking the same thing, I have clothes that we don't donate because well....they aren't good for donating, past that....I need to find a group here that makes them into rags.

I also think that a lot of people give all of their old clothes and junk to someplace like Goodwill and consider themselves to be very charitable people. It's very nice to donate things you no longer use to charity, but charity should probably extend further than that for people who are in a good situation. Clothes are just the tip of the iceberg for people who are needy.

Was reading back through the thread and found this post... I recently volunteered for the Salvation Army - one of the agencies that does the Angel trees in my area. They have what they "Forgotten Angels," - children whose tags had been pulled, but not returned, or had not been pulled from the tree in a certain amount of time, or had been involved in some of other mixup. Our (the volunteers) job was to take the tag and go through these gigantic bins of (donated, new) toys and match them as closely as possible, and get each child 2 gifts. Unfortunately we weren't able to get all of them their *exact* wish, but most of them we got very close. My point being, I think the Salvation Army (at least), does make an effort to fill that gap, as much as they can, anyway.

I have seen Goodwill full, so yes I can imagine that money would help.

That makes sense. I got some nice silver as well as some nice silver-plate in a goodwill store, and for nothing basically. It was also the sort of place that would get clothes, nice clothes, with the tags still in it.
