I was reading about the Kansas City Secret Santa today and thought how much fun that would be. It made me start thinking what I would do if I had 40k to spare. So here are some questions.

1. If you had unlimited amounts of money, what type of Random Acts of Kindness would you do? At Christmas or otherwise.

2.

Non-profit companies can, and often do, advertise. Advertising doesn't nothing to discredit their non-profit status.

I'll take it one step farther ... anything that keeps all that crap out of my closets and garage is good!

Yes, but you are being all rational, like ;). It seems there is quite a bit of anxiety out there about being scammed by "fake" charities. This does happen, of course,

your lack of basic comprehension about the complicated nature and the vast ways in which Goodwill helps the disabled to make a living by employing them and the ways in which St Vincent's boths sells and donates items is.... staggering.

again. 21 years in nonprofits honey - there's not much you can spring on me that I can't refute. (or refudiate as Sarah Palin likes to say) Have you examined their 990s? have you looked them up on Guidestar to look at their percentage of overhead to program? Do you know what the associates in the stores make? do you know what that young man ina wheelchair behind the counter or the young lady with Down's syndrome sorting donations makes? have you asked?

uh.huh. I thought so.

Our Goodwill store is like utopia for those with OCD. Everything is organized by color, so you go in and see a long row of white shirts, then the black shirts, then the red shirts, etc. I get all giddy when I go in.
